Built at Swindon in 1940 and withdrawn in January 1964 and sent to Woodham Brothers for scrap. It remained there until 1976.

A number of Great Western Society members formed the Heavy Freight Group which raised the funds to purchase 3822 and to undertake the restoration work. 3822 first ran again under its own steam in 1985.

Once restored 3822 was used mainly at Didcot, although it did make several trips to other railways including the Nene Valley, West Somerset and East Lancashire. During 3822’s stay on the Nene Valley it was also used for a Queen video, when you may have seen it burst through a brick wall, while towing Freddie Mercury and co.

3822 was taken out of service in 1995 for its ten yearly boiler examination and overhaul and returned to traffic in 2002.

It is now on static display at Didcot Railway Centre. In 1989, it was used in the Music video of song Breakthrough by the band Queen

MCL disinfects 3924 points in City

LAHORE - The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) Saturday sprayed chlorinated water at 3,824 points in the city including hospitals, bus stands, offices, streets, markets, public places and main roads to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
A spokesperson said here that chlorinated water spray operation was conducted on the directions of Commissioner Lahore Saif Anjum.
Various squads of the department disinfected overall around 50 kms of the city area.

3827 At Sydney Station

The 38 class were first conceived in the 1930s when the NSWGR established there was a need for a locomotive to eliminate the complications of double heading on a number of fast intrastate passenger trains.

The design was influenced by the fashion for streamlining at the time, including elements of the class J locomotives of the Norfolk and Western Railway in the United States. The design team was headed by Harold Young, the Principal Design Engineer (later Chief Mechanical Engineer) of the NSWGR.
The conditions of trackwork with frequent sharp curvature to be traversed at high speed would require six-coupled driving wheels in a 'Pacific' 4-6-2 configuration. Maintenance requirements suggested a two-cylinder simple steam locomotive.

The design was carried out by the NSWGR Locomotive Section of the Design Office and incorporated the latest developments in locomotive design from Australia and overseas.
The incorporation of as many Australian manufactured components as possible was a requirement at the design stage.

Similarly to the earlier D57 class (which had some input from Young) the massively proportioned locomotive incorporated a cast steel chassis. The design also sported cast Boxpok coupled wheels for better rotational balance, and a Delta trailing truck.[

3830 (pronounced Thirty-eight thirty) is a 4-6-2steam locomotive operated by the New South Wales Government Railways between 1949 and 1967. It has been preserved by the Powerhouse Museum and is based at the NSW Rail Museum, Thirlmere. It was operational from 1997 until 2009 and was scheduled to return to service in 2016 before the need for more extensive boiler repairs was discovered.

Construction
3830 was built in 1949 by the New South Wales Government Railways', Eveleigh Railway Workshops as the last of thirty 38 class locomotives built to haul express trains. 3830 was the last steam locomotive built in New South Wales. The first five were built by Clyde Engineering to a streamlined design, whilst the later 25 locomotives in the class were built by Eveleigh and Cardiff Locomotive Workshops and were unstreamlined.

Construction was delayed mostly due to material shortages during World War II. 3830 was the last engine completed and entered service on 27 September 1949. It was allocated to Eveleigh Locomotive Depot until January 1960, before moving to Lithgow. It returned to Eveleigh in September 1960, operating from Broadmeadow between January and April 1961, before receiving its last overhaul during which it was repainted green.

In April 1962, it along with 3813 hauled the inaugural standard gauge Spirit of Progress from Albury to Sydney. In September 1966, it was reallocated to Enfield Locomotive Depot. On 22 October 1967 it made a farewell run from Sydney to Wyong on a New South Wales Rail Transport Museum special. It made its final journey on 31 October 1967 on a freight train from Moss Vale to Enfield. Over 18 years it travelled 1.7 million kilometres.

History
A total of 197 engines were built. 192 of them were sequentially numbered 3835–4026 for the Midland Railway.
After nationalisation in 1948 British Railways added 40000 to their numbers so they became 43835–44026.
Five engines were constructed by Armstrong Whitworth for the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway in 1922, numbered 57–61.
They were absorbed into LMS stock in 1930, becoming 4557–4561.

Accidents and incidents
  • On 19 November 1926, locomotive No. 3980 was one of two hauling a freight train.
  • One of the private owner wagons disintegrated, derailing the train at Parkgate and Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.
  • A signal post was partly brought down, obstructing an adjacent line.
  • The carriages of an express passenger train had their sides ripped open by the signal post.
  • Eleven people were killed.
  • On 6 March 1930, locomotive No. 4009 was hauling a ballast train that was in collision with a passenger train at Langwathby station, Cumberland.
  • The passenger train had departed from Culgaith against signals.
  • Two people were killed and four were seriously injured.
