But form does change constantly which is why league positions keep changing and we don’t just award the league based on who we think has the best team.

I have a tiny violin to play for West Ham fans who want to cry about the coronavirus pandemic led to them being labelled the 3rd ****test PL team when they think they were really only the 5th ****test team.

Ok so as we all know your view is entirely based on Liverpool and you couldn’t give a **** about any other teams or the rest of the league. Thank god we got there in the end!

They most certainly wouldn't, Watford (bottom of the league for a large part of the season) smashing you 3-0, Norwich ( bottom of the league for a large part of the season) beating City 3-2. How do your stats account for those kind of things?

The stats can very easily account for them (that's how bookies make their odds)

Exactly, I don't care about any other teams, and every possible solution to the problem has Liverpool as champions. So I am unbiased and just want the fairest result.

So a competition with only 3 game rounds to play is too unpredictable to fairly predict but we can fairly predict the league?

Yep, that's how statistics work - more data allows lower variances.

If the league gets cancelled you will be awarded the title, what can be fairer than that?

Before Liverpool had a couple of good seasons i had scousers telling me City were going to dominate for the next 10 years <whistle>

20 games into last season Liverpool were 7 points clear.

Using @astro logic they were therefore defo going to win the league.

How did that work out?
I think i read somewhere that Liverpool had spent more time at the top of the league without winning it than any other team <laugh>

No mate, only caring about Liverpool so that you’re entire thought process is built around Liverpool winning the league isn’t you being unbiased. It’s just you being totally blinkered and not really giving a **** about how fair or not the end to the season is as long as you get your title*

Exactly this. At the start of the season, my team were shhite, then we were the best in form side, due to the loan window. We might have been eight points off the play-offs, but the table didn't completely reflect our true strength of only 1 defeat in 18 league games, due to a really poor start. I honestly believed we were in with an outside chance of making the play-offs. But that matters not, it wasn't to be, but it wasn't to be for none of the other teams either, due to a world pandemic, and that's the way it should remain, nothing!

Oh and for the record, I wanted West Ham relegated <laugh>

But it is what it is...move on, nothing to see here.

Exactly, things change so often in football when a team finds form or loses it. The idea we can fairly decide what would happen over the next ten games by using averages is ridiculous.

No-one has achieved or failed at anything yet so why pretend like they have? If it gets scrapped everyone is treated the same, no-one gains and no-one loses out. If we use any other method teams will lose out or gain based on assumptions rather than results.

To give another example I still remember many years back, when my club got relegated on the last day of the season. From a statistic point of view we looked safe. We only needed one point at best, even if we didn't get it, something like five or seven other teams had to pick up points, the impossible happened and we were relegated.

Exactly.

This is what Sky era stattos like our Kopite here don’t understand. Last game of the 1994 season we needed to beat Wimbledon at home to stay up, who were bang in form. It was still in the days of pay on the gate, I got there 3 hours before KO, in the ground 90 mins before, 10,000 were locked out that day.

We were 0-2 down in 20 minutes and were doomed. We somehow came back and won 3-2 and stayed up by the skin of our teeth, a day I’ll never forget.
