It's one of the more frivolous things that Sumption was asked by Emma Barnett - if the pubs were back open tomorrow, would you go to one? He said he would - and so would I - but there are many people around who have become so traumatised and terrified by the media coverage of this pandemic that it will take a very long time for them to be able to be near strangers again. If ever.
Stan Collymore did an unscientific poll of his followers who obviously are mainly football fans asking if they’d attend a football match tomorrow if their team was allowed to play in a restriction-free stadium. Thousands responded with about 3/4 saying no.
Allowing COVID-19 to spread around the world has more than poisoned relations.

Well I won’t be having a drink with him.
I’d have a pint if it wasn’t too rammed, but I don’t like overcrowded pubs at the best of times.
I think it’s hard to say what will be changed and for how long. Some people might avoid social contact for ages, or even the rest of their lives. Other might discover that they don’t need a by the minute update on the activities of every D list celeb under the sun. There might be a long overdue backlash against the politico/media complex (with thanks to D. Eisenhower). Be fun finding out.
Relations with a country that lied and covered up outbreak until it couldn't be contained, lies about it's death totals, 'disappears' whistleblowers and basically will hugely profit from the devastation it has caused.
WTF do they expect? C*nts...
with lots of countries sinking into recession, does anyone know if a country can sue another for damages?
My thoughts are, if for example football, a sport we all love is 200 million short ad clubs could go bust, is there any legal way the country could get the money from china. Also, in view of their lack of communication with this virus, it makes a mockery of the Huewali (probably spelt wrong) contract.

I doubt its enforceable.
We would do well to avoid a world war over this. If it takes hold in India and Africa the consequences will be horrendous.

They've made mistakes but if money was the priority then how do you explain the billions spent on the furlough scheme etc?
