I've got an 8 foot spear. It's kept in the study. Inherited it from grandparents.
It use to belong to my wifes grandfather, he picked it up when they lived out in Singapore many years ago. The family were going to throw it out when he died and I thought "I'm having that!".
I like items with age, as I love the thought of how they were used and by whom in bygone eras.
I like the idea of her grandfather being out there with his family (as they had kids with them out there) and thinking one day "I'm going to buy myself a spear". I cannot imagine what my wife would say if i came home with one or what it would be like now trying to get it through customs.
There's an episode of Sherlock where he appears at the beginning with a spear covered in blood and comments he came on public transport as "none of the taxis would take him". My spear is a bit **** compared to that one but still, it's a spear!
My old man has a walking cane sword his grandad owned during ww1.
Cool af it is, twist the top and out pulls a thin sword from the cane, it's deffo a sticker not a slasher.
Wasn't there a thing with officers and canes in WW1? Something like officers were expected to carry them but were likely to be targeted by enemy troops as a result so some tried to basically throw them away when walking into combat but that was an offence which you could face the firing squad for.
It's possible I've just made that up though. It just sounds familiar in my head.
I have no idea mate but that very interesting, my dad's never mentioned anything about his grandad bar the cane, no tsure if he served or what tbh.
Battery charger mate, use to be made in trafford park.
There is a mercury switch behind that timer plate that weighs about a pound but because it's not lab grade mercury no one will buy it and it's a nightmare to get rid of

My father in law had a collection of around ten gollywogs in his study the first time I ever went there. I wasn't really sure what to say. Don't know where they are now but suspect they won't be passed on! In fairness he had a lot of other stuff too as he worked in different countries and brought things back but it was those that stood out.
That terrifies the living **** out of me now never mind when you were a kid!
Pretty cool item tho....and unusual.
