if it stops raining aftr lap 2 (which is unlikely) then it will fuel up to what mys trategy sais for my first stop wich is 95 so im goin for a safe startegy. im sacrificing faster laps for security tho my driver should make up for it in the dry with his high concentration. ur driver will be really strong in the wet. i think with the weather setting conversion ur q2 time will be hard to beat.
on the other hand if i pit because no more fuel was left then it stops raining a lap aftr then i pit again for slick tyres but 86 litres should last me about 25 laps
Well i have very low Tech Insight and Experience so my setup can be as much as about 130 points away on every parameter on dry, then when i convert to wet settings for q2 (if i am those 130 points maximum away) it will be s snowball effect and i will be even more then 130 points away. So its not very certain I will have a good Q2. plus my car levels are still very low so even with perfect setup i will be a bit off pace. I am curious though, how much should I push? Last race that was my first, I wanted to play safe and ran with "keep the car on track". How much do you reckon I can up it having 69 concentration?
What slick compound are you using? I am thinking of going supersoft and having 3 or 4 stops and NOT pitting if on wrong tyres. I am thinking this because its only 55% chance of rain in 1st quarter. That means that it pretty likely could dry up and possibly start raining again during 2nd quarter before turning completely dry for the rest of the race. If thats the case, then everyone that are pitting because on wrong tyres they could be pitting like 6-7 times in total. On the other hand if it ONLY rains a little at the start and then stops for dry until the end I will probably do more stops than the others but i will be alot lighter as well. What do you thnk?
dnt be surprised if u qualify well though ur tech insight and experience a bit low u can still find a decent setup that may not be far from a perfect setup. use the fine tune calculation i sent u that should help and when ur driver is satidfied keep tweaking it to find those extra tenths . i bet u wont be far. i say push a little coz ur talent is still ok but in the wet always keep ur car on the track and that goes for ur race start also
i think it may be risky in that if it does a quite a bit in first half then u might be the one to keep going back and possibly doing even more than 7 stops but if ur assumption is correct then u could prove to be the one to beat. i thought about it but for me its too risky to jeapordise my good run for promotion. i would be happy with a 5th or 6th but i would be gutted if i lost out big time coz i went for something crazy. but this is ur testing season maybe ull wanna try if u believe its not gonna rain as much as ppl think
and for my 2 stops im using the soft thatll last as its not as hot as the other races. extra softs will work for a 3 stop in the dry but then again thats assuming everything goes swimingly for u
No i mean to do 4 pitstops ONLY. whatever the weather i wont pit early if it changes condition. BUt by having four stops it will never be long until i do my regular stop anyway. And no its not that i believe or not believe how much it will rain. Its just that theres quite a chance of it changing from wet to dry to wet to dry . All those pitstops for tyre change and then add in a regular 2 stops as well if you are unlucky..
But yes I will probably do the same as you, a 2 stopper.
About the setup. Did you try the practice calculator? It does exactly the same thing as what you sent, only seems to do a bit more even. By the calculator. If you change One parameter, it will also change the other settings slightly. I think this is something that is true but your info doesn't take into account. It sounds very plausible, because if you change wing for example, of course the engine settings and gear ratio or brake bias etc will have to change also to compensate for that lower/extra down force. See the logic? This means that you should be done with setting your car up in lesser attempts and therefore possibly give you a chance to try another wing split on 1-2 runs.
i consider my fine tuning pretty good and i tested it and was accurate so i dnt neccessarily need to use the calculator. not to say that im superb at finding the best time but i usually find my best setup with about 3 practise laps left so im still able to find the best wing splits and even try the different compounds to find the difference in time loss. 4 stops only is good i think in the end ur either gonna do 3 stops with wet and soft or 4 stops with wet and supers. infact i think that may be the ultimate strategy as ur doing one stop less with more grip. its just to complicated for me i wanna keep it simple for now i kno that my strategy is fail proof and is good enough with a good driver and qualifying position (given the fact my q2 was much faster then most even with quite a bit of fuel) im in a good position for points. im sittin in 7th atm with 3 top runners still to qualify where as last week i qualified 18th and finished 7th with the wrong tyre choice. (being the hard instead of the mediums that would have lasted)
No i was just theorizing asking you for advice cause I have no prior experience cause i messed up my first race completely. I will do a scheduled 2 stopper as well and set it to pit 2-3 laps away from scheduled if weather changes or something like that.
One thing i still am unsure about is what to set the starting values on when i do my setup. If it says Downforce: Low for example. Should i start testing with wings at 250? 300? There is only low/medium/high/very high right? Or is there Very high too? If there is 4 different starting points then i think starting from 250 should be good?
well i think the 2 stopper after rain is the safer option i just hope im right or else ill look like an idiot lol. iv only ever seen low, medium and high. so ill always start with 250, 500 or 750 and from there ur driver will tell u how far u r. iv heard ppl statin all stats at 500 but to me itll only take longer to find ur setup
yea starting everything from 500 would be a bit stupid. And i checked the season calendar now and you are right there are only low/med/high always except for fuel consumption that also is very high at some places but that doesn't matter for the settings. Though are you really ALWAYS starting on 250, 500, or 750 for all parameters? even for engines and gears? Like on this current track you can see that POWER: 13/20 (count the bars) That equals 65% hence starting at 650 instead of any of the usual starting points.
Another question. What are the determants for brakes? Is that the "handling" parameter maybe? Handling must be giving clues for something right? Accel must be for gears obviously.

We have 0-999. Split that to three and you have 333. That means tthat:
Low = 0-333
Med = 333-666
High = 666-999
All three equally wide range. SO better would be to choose the middle points in each range which is:
Low = 333/2 = 167
Med = 167+333 = 500 (obviously still the same)
High = 500+333 = 833
Get what I'm saying? Low for example can never be higher than 333 because then it would have been reported medium. So starting a low at 250 means that you are only 87 points away from its maximum value but 250 points above its minimum value. That's not starting in the middle. So for the same reason you choose 500 as starting point for medium (1000/2), you should choose low starting point to be in the middle of low (333/2).
Of course we cant be certain that the range for low is equal with medium and high, but that's an assumption I think is fair. What say you?

What are people doing for their race set-up and their lap choices for when to pit when it stops raining?
I am just going to use my Q1 set up for the race because it seems it will be dry for the majority of it. When it stops raining that will probably be it so I have set it to come in after 1 lap when the rain stops.

That's pretty much what I've done too. It's hard to do a fuel setup as we don't know when it will start or stop raining. I've just planned to do a classic 2 stopper.
Im on the lookout for a driver just to experiment. Im close to writing this season off after a few recent mistakes though im still £25M up but not getting results.
2 questions:
- I cant qualify with 1 driver and and race with another can I?
- I havnt touched looking at staff motivation etc, do I need to?

Ok guys here is my strategy - currently p5 with my new driver so pushing for a win or fail.
Starting the race on wet tyres with 86ltrs fuel in hope that the rain stops before the fuel does which I predict to be around lap 25-30, hopefully I can then switch straight to the soft tyres which will last until my final stop. In terms of set up, I am going halfway between dry and wet (q1 and q2). Btw my fuel stints are 86-84-84. Good luck guys. Also thanks again to ben for the great info which helped a lot in q2.
