You clearly never grew up in the fifties otherwise you would know and love the spam fritter and chips fried in lard.
Proper corned beef is made in a similar way to salt beef. Though I still eat the tinned stuff on a sandwich or make corned beef hash with it.

I like corned beef. Bit expensive for what it is like. Spam is ****e. Chopped pork on the other hand... Can eat that **** straight from the tin dipped in a bit of tomato sauce or English mustard.
A lot of corned beef contains water, but I did see some the other day that was no added water, much darker colour to the normal cheap stuff.
