Yeah we aren’t over it, but preparation has been in overdrive and there is currently far more capacity than is required on a national basis so they are beginning to look at how they can take advantage of the extra capacity to bring back more normal treatments.

The thinking is that they’ve gone further than is actually required in stopping treatments and that there is room to get things moving again whilst still dealing with coronavirus.

Yeah location will still have an effect, but on a national level it’s now being looked at what can be started up again.

Surely that's a risk to either the patients you are bringing in OR to the hospital if the patient is a carrier.

Ours was expected roughly round about now I believe. Think there is a few thoughts that might have over prepared but people are still understandably cautious.

I lose track of the logic of whats going on sometimes, it's much the same as Trump thinking he's going to open back up the economy.

I’m sure that’ll factor into the planning. The problem is that certain people are at more risk by waiting for treatment.

Well yes, which is exactly why they cancelled 90% of outpatient appts and went to telephone consultations and cancelled all non emergency surgery.

Saying there’s currently spare capacity is somewhat stating the obvious and doesn’t really cover off the reason why they did what they did.

Yeah I see what you are saying, but in the same breath they are more than likely to be the same people the virus would be a threat to, the very people we are supposed to be protecting. Not having a go btw....I just lose track of logic, we are either in shut down or we are not, and from what I heard today, we have to go through a red and amber stages first, which would fall around mid June.

Yup. I had a letter from the hospital and a consultant phone me personally, both clearly stated, don't come any where near a hospital in so many words.

I take it that means numbers in staffing as much as beds.

As an aside it will be interesting to see how much phone/virtual consultations will increase in the wake of this.

Capacity has obviously been around for a while but are not very popular, be interesting to see if being forced to changes people's perspective.

I don’t think all of a sudden hospitals are going to be running as normal, but it’s really positive news imo that the planning is now happening to start bringing key services back up and running where possible and the planning for how we come out the other side of this. I was just wanting to spread the good news, I don’t have any specifics yet!

Indeed. It’d be interesting to hear what the experience was of those who had to make the bookings tbh. Ringing Edna and telling her the consultant will call on X Day / time, and what the reaction to that was from the average patient. I know clinicians like to look at their patients in the face though, as way too many lie to them believe it or not.

I actually know quite a lot about this, for the trust I work for at least, not so much the contacting patients (doubt all recieved phonecalls though) but the process behind it. Can't really say much but the scale and speed it was delivered was incredible tbh.

Surely it's time, for some of the world's senior leaders, to have a quiet word. He's totally out of his depth.

They probably think he's just a buffoon, and can't be asked with the effort of putting him straight. At the end of the day he's human so is easily dispensable, it will just take longer than we may like. I can't really see anyone wanting to serve time for putting a bullet in him, so it's the usual passage of time passing, until we bid him goodbye. His side puppet (vice whatever) don't really help, but someone has to be the bog roll holder.

    He wouldn't give two ****s.

What would be better is if the world's senior leaders were able to bypass the U.S. so that any president would have to take notice.

And herein lies the real problem. The rest of the world is too reliant on the U.S. which isn't usually such a big issue... until you get a psychopathic lunatic in charge at which point you realise just how vulnerable the rest of the world is. If the coronavirus is a wake up call to the world in everyone re-evaluating what's important in life, then Trump is the wake-up call for the rest of the world to re-evaluate globalisation and the over-dependency on the U.S. and the need for a stronger world outside of America.
