Until a vaccine is produced with efficacy there will be no end to this. Death rates will continue globally from Covid 19. What they do not yet understand is how anti-bodies will react, how long the anti-bodies will be effective for. What is already being shown is re-infection rates in China/Asia and if you don't believe the original deaths rate, you equally cannot believe the re-infection rate either. When the lockdown is relaxed, there will be a second wave and moving into winter when the 'normal' flu would normally surface, a third wave. This not taking into account 750k at risk people who will finally be released from 12 weeks of internment. Yesterday the Times published graphs showing a significant flattening of the 'the curve' by an extended lockdown as well as the second/thirds wave scenarios. I know which I'd rather have.

Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve not yet seen scientific evidence that someone who has recovered cannot reinfect or how long antibodies will keep you immune for if at all

Me neither. I understood the jury was out on whether you could get the disease again following recovery?

There's not really any solid evidence either way with this being a novel virus but we know how virus' generally work and it would be extremely unusual not to develop some level of immunity.

In Asia there have been some testing positive after "recovering" but at the moment the number is low enough to assume this is more of an issue with testing or maybe a minority of cases where a patient has had a very small viral load the first time and then been exposed to much larger load the next time.

If we didn't have a significant level of immunity after infection we would have probably started noticing in Italy and Spain by now. There have been tens of thousands hospitalised and discharged so you would've expected a number of recurrences to have been picked up by now.

That doesn't answer how long the antibodies will last or how they would react to a slight mutation in the virus though.

Of course people have always coughed, just not sure it's always been the dry type cough, that I'm hearing now days. Some guy, the owners of one of Britains biggest care home opperaters said it's in 2/3 rds of their care homes. <yikes>
Government been saying for years, pentions are unsustainable, maybe they've found the answer. Strange that we seem to be letting people die than try many of the drugs which other countries say they have had success with.
Blood plasma being one of them, the antibodies of a cured patient works with many, many illnesses, other countries are using this, they say with success, we aren't.

The sooner we can do antibodies checks the better, although our government say all the present tests don't work properly, that being the case, the German test means very little.

...The 3.5m the government bought from China don’t work. Hence why you can’t buy them!

Doesn’t mean there are no working antibody tests. It's the home kit pinprick tests that are unreliable. The German test in the article was a lab test I believe.

The ONS stats were published this morning showing that the week ending 3rd April saw more deaths in the England and Wales than any week since records began (16,387 compared to the five year average of 10,305.) I can't link through right now but there's an interesting graph showing weekly deaths compared to the last ten years and this years follows the general trend up until the end of March where the number sky rockets.

There is no guarantee that we can create an effective vaccine.

Malaria, HIV, Dengue, Hookworm infection, Ebola, even the common cold have had billions thrown at them searching for vaccines.

1.2 million people die from Malaria every year!!

NB - scientists are still trying to develop a vaccine for SARS which first appeared nearly 20 years ago.

Many malaria deaths because the victims either did not take preventative meds, were diagnosed too late to save or could not get the meds to treat it. I routinely take the preventative meds when I know I am going to Kruger National Park, almost annually/every two years.

I expect there is a jab, I take pills for about 10 days when I am planning to go to a known malaria risk area there.

I see the trumpster completely lost the plot in yesterday’s presser. Saw a good description today where someone described his followers as a cult

I do my best to avoid seeing or listening to him. I have been referring to them as a cult since 2016. We just have to vote him out in November!

The alternative Joe Biden, isn't he the one that previously had to resign for copying a Neil Kinnock speech and lying about his qualifications?

He's either a genius or a fool, New York must be on the point of herd immunity as probably half the population has it, will they go back to work while the rest of the world has 2nd and 3rd waves, Sweden doing very little also to stop it, think that was our plan originally but the virus was moving too quick. We allowed it in, then thought, ow fook what have we done and tried to slow it. Russia the next ones to take a big hit, half China's recent case's are coming over the Russian border.
