So the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has published figures up to 3rd April (collated on 11th April). For those who believe the figures aren't being under-represented I'll warn you now, this is damning...

3rd April figures reported by the government (in England & Wales) - 4093
Actual figure for 3rd April collected by ONS - 6235

50% more than the figure stated on the day. What does that say about the figure of 11,300 being reported now?

In terms of how many deaths by location up to 3rd April (collated by ONS on 7th April not 11th April)

    3716 - Hospital
    136 - Home
    217 - Care Home
    33 - Hospice
    20 - Other

Bear in mind the week before upto 27th March, care homes figure was 20. That's a fck of a jump in a week.

So is anybody on here going to change some parts of their life and do things differently after this event has passed ?

Work from home more ? Maybe change your job ?Travel less ? Buy more local food ? Look out for your neighbours ? Grow your own Veg ? Donate to food banks ?

Has it changed you in any way or are you hoping to go back to the ways things were ?

It's a red herring. All we can do is compare our response with other countries. Until someone is able to provide accurate information how other countries are recording deaths for those with coronavirus you can draw no conclusion on the issue. For example Italy does the same as us.

Your figures have confused me - the breakdown of where the deaths are is about 2k short of the total?

See the bit in brackets for location. Hence the difference.

Or is it because one data set is collated on the 7th and one on the 11th? Huge jump in 3 days in terms of what they had access to if so!

I have no political agenda on this subject. I think some things have been managed very badly by the government, some things have been managed well, mostly what the Chancellor is responsible for.

The opposition are pretty much a non-issue at the minute as Parliament isn't sitting and they therefore have minimal to no input.

So it's not about political bias, it's about the current situation that all of us find ourselves in and the only bias I have is for the truth.

I see people posting stats and then other people saying "pish, nonsense, they would have died anyway" as for some reason they want the death toll to be as low as possible.

I'm full of good intentions at the moment; all the stuff you say, plus generally try to be less materialistic. Enjoy the simple things in life, be grateful for what I've got.

That said, ask me how I'm doing a month after this **** is over. I'll probably be upgrading the car and planning a trip to Nashville, if I'm still alive and I haven't gone skint.

Yep this. Now the key is that this doesn't mean the government is doing anything underhand on the day they're reporting. The ONS take 11 days to collate all the data.

But what is a concern is that if we were to apply the same to today's figures then the actual figure might be 16,000. And any amount above 1500 could be in care homes and that's a modest estimate for care homes I've just suggested.

There seems to be folk on here desperate to get the figure as high as possible so they’ve got a great big stick to beat the government with.

Yeah in the charts released by the ONS the two curves for the governments figures and the ons figures are pretty similar. It’s the updated curve with the data lag added that is far higher. So what the government is reporting would appear to be the figures they can confirm that day, whereas after a period of time we get a more realistic estimate of what’s going on.
