I honestly never realised we were letting the old folk just die, I assumed that was in a worst case scenario.....not when we claim to have 2k empty beds because we let the poor sods die. Regardless even if they will only live a year or two, an elderly life is just as valuable as any other, unless we've become inhumane.

13th death in 3 weeks at same care home in Tyne and Wear being reported this evening ...

... "but if we were to model annual deaths in that home over previous periods"<doh>

That Tyne & Wear care home apparently has 72 resident bedrooms ... if we assume that not all might have had current occupants, then they have had a 20% death rate in 3 weeks ... truly staggering.

Yeah I know what you mean. Even if let's say we argued that these elderly people could not be saved, whether that be in hospital or a care home, it still does not exempt the government from the fact, the figures are being massaged.

Now the chief medical officer would argue, those figures are available, but my argument still remains, these are not the figures that are being broadcast to the tv viewers on a daily basis. Even if you have to report those figures, so many days behind, you can say that but still make them transparent, rather than appearing underhand with them.

Now why does this matter, well it matters because care homes have not been getting PPE, because you priortised the hospitals, ok, I get it, not enough to go around. We know that. But still don't massage the figures, because it then comes across as though we don't care about our elderly!

You can only relate failings to your own personal experiences in life and for me there was at least two failings to start with. The first was I was struggling to believe in the pandemic, because the governing bodies, were not reacting in a manner that I would logically expect them to. Meaning, closing the borders. Now whether that would've made a difference or not is irrelevant it's the message it sends out to your citizens, we are closed for business - then someone such as myself will take you seriously.

However, the second failing, was just not about closing the borders, it was the dithering, the weekend of the closure we had a full fixture of football matches, they were not postponed until virtually the last minute, some non league games still went ahead. It's this dithering that cost lives.

That's without adding the arguments of PPE to the equasion. Again I get it, it's a pandemic, you are not going to be able to supply the vast quantities you require, but part of this is also to blame on your own decisions within the manufactoring industry, when you rely on China for the supply. It became a dog eat dog world overnight, China and Germany were both looking to protect their own interests.

Finally and the most insulting, is massaging figures, don't treat people like fools. Even if you have basis for the lack of PPE, there can be no excuse for outright lying.

Lying doesn't seem to matter as much as it used to though does it ?
Social media spreads so much ****e that the lines are that blurred the lies dont seem to carry enough shock impact anymore .

One more thing ... the "we are all in this together" bollocks rhetoric... I wonder just how many of the 13 that died in that care home had a couple of ICU trained nurses standing by their bedside for 48 hours when it got to a "touch and go" status? ... I suspect we all know the answer to that one ...

Was it really touch and Go ??
My take would be more of a smokescreen

Seems like folk are still fixated on care home figures not going down in the official count whilst ignoring the very fact that there’s deaths going down as Coronavirus when it may not even be the primary or contributing factor to a death.

Now the lefties are saying Boris in ICU was a smokescreen <doh>

How long do coronavirus patients usually spend in ICU ?

Thirteen deaths in 3 weeks in a Tyne & Wear care home all with Covid-19 but it might just be a secondary factor? ... wake up and smell the coffee, Saff ...

A smokescreen is arguably harsh. I don’t doubt the guy was in a bad way. I do doubt he’d have got that level of care if he happened to be a mechanic from Scunthorpe given how bad you have to be to be told you need to be in hospital. It certainly helped knock some bad news off the front pages.

I respect your decision to persevere with this thing about care home deaths being wrongly attributed to CV. Can’t say I agree with it but it’s quite original.

The problem is a lot of lies are driven by political narratives and bias towards what party an individual may support, rather than drilling down to the bare bones of a situation. It's much like the media before the elections and after corona, its that same old narrative will you apologise. Thankfully the other day Starmer bit back at Sophie on SKY, and refused to get drawn into the games they were playing. It was refreshing to see an opposition party leader do that. This is more than about apologies, it's understanding where it went wrong and why. One of the aspects for the future has to be looking at our own manufacturing industry, we have got to stop relying on global imports/exports, because when the shhite hits the fan, those producing countries only care about themselves.

County Durham care home. Yes, with some of them it might have been a secondary factor or not a factor at all. Out of 13, I’m assuming at least one might have been asymptotic given the average of that.

I’m not saying every Coronavirus death is wrongly counted. I’m saying that it’s wrong to say that the figures are being massaged because if that were the case there’s no way the government would allow numbers to go on the official death count without being absolutely certain that it was Covid-19 that was responsible.

The truth will come 12 months from now. When the annual death figures are looked at, it's not going to take a rocket scientist to work out how many additional deaths there were in the UK, in the year 2020.

Depends how poorly they’re, I suppose.

Where have I persevered with care homes being wrongly attributed to CV? That’s not the point I’m making.
