The Universal Credit system is a joke, as millions of people are about to find out. It was summed up nicely by someone on the TV, who said we have gratitude for our NHS, we have gratitude for our pensioners, yet mention the other aspect of the system, UC, then some people looked down on it, well some of those people now, will have to learn how to manage on around £70 a week, I've seen the press mention £92+ fook knows where they get that figure, but even that in itself aint going to pay the bills.

Oh and don't forget as @Looney Leftie pointed out, they will get a feed of your earnings, so don't even expect to get those figures above, and if you have over £16k in savings you will get fook all, and if you have over £6 k in savings, expect deductions in that £92. But hey, it's the system no one cared about, hence why we have food kitchens and homelessness in the UK.

We should all thank Iain Duncan Smith, the architect of UC. The Norman Tebbit of his age.

I'm interested to know if anybody on here
I'll qualify for the self employed 80% average wage. My profits are very modest to say the least, so it won't be a big windfall in any shape at all.

I've managed to convince my local council to give me a council tax reduction though and my water company to cap my rates <ok>

I've also taken a mortgage holiday, although the nice young lady on the phone cheerfully informed me that they would be applying the interest each month to add onto the overall bill, which of course will go up with said accruing interest...

If ever an image summed that vile man up completely, it was the one of him manically clapping and cheering as the coalition Tory Govt bill on reducing benefits payments was passed.

    He’s an absolute thundercunt

I honestly can't think of many politicians I would wish the worst upon, but he is definitely one. And only because of the direct impact he has had on the misery of families up and down the country, and he revels in it. Truly nasty ****. Give it till June and many more will know what that's like.

    last one brb promise :bandit:

UC is based on the premise that it gets you off it.... and into work, part of the Tories 'work pay's' mantra.

The problem is that for a vast many people for a vast many reasons, it just doesn't work. It's a very very basic safety net, and not nearly enough to address the financial inequalities that exist in the 5th richest nation on the planet.

It's about balanced critcism and is it relevant to the thread. UC is relevent, because it's become a consequence of the lock-down. Basically meaning it's going to affect millions, we are what, only into our third week of the lock-down, the claimants will be lucky if they see a payment of UC in the first five weeks of it. However, I'm sure someone will be able to direct them to their local food bank, that's when reality will hit home. But of course some people's perseptions of benefits is one from 20-30 years ago, not knowing the devil gave birth to IDS.

See you made a mistake straight away, you assumed it's a safety net for at least a minority. It's not.

Bringing this back on topic, personally I think that life won’t ever be quite the same again post this unprecedented disaster.

Millions more people have found working from home can actually work with the aid of new technologies. Work life balance will come right back into focus imo. The weary commutes, the soulless offices, is it all necessary? In many cases the answer is largely no.

People are in the main having to get by on less money, but enjoying more free time, and having much more time with their kids and families. It’ll make millions evaluate what’s genuinely important imho, and ultimately that’s having food on the table and a roof over your families head.

    Yep June..

I mentioned reducing my bills, and I've managed to do some of that. So the rest, I can negotiate fairly well. I don't actually need a lot, so I can keep my spending to a minimum and ride it out on next to **** all money <laugh>

I'd certainly like to think that will be the new reality mate, sadly I don't have a lot of faith in human nature not returning to the same old ways.
