I thought yesterday's game was a pretty easy game to referee between 2 sides who wanted to play the passing game, yet these two managed a few howlers between them. In particular both teams were denied blatant penalties, and Taylor's yellow was a real shocker. Goodness knows how they would have coped with a difficult game.
 
the ref will be embarassed especially when (if) he looks at the Taylor booking again. Taylor is one of the most genuine nice guys we've had in the team for some time and would never dream of trying to cheat to win us a penalty
 
Completely agree, not to mention Scott Wagstaff being blatantly fouled in the lead up to their goal (plus a soft yellow card for Jackson).

Not wanting to seem biased, the Wiggins incident did seem to be a penalty, and on one occasion one of our players clattered into their keeper and the ref turned a blind eye to it.
 
Also add to that Chris Solly pulling their players shirt (and what should possibly have been a booking for their player half-removing his shirt subsequently?).
 
Centre backs dont dive as a rule,saw the wiggins one today couldnt see at the time but think it could easily of been given.
Not sure about the waggy thing thioough havent seen it again but he does tend to go down very esy as do most players in that position.Jacksons was a booking it was blatant but he had to do it as did there player later in the game.
 
Doubt the referee will bother to look at that again unless told to do so by the assessor. The Wiggins incident was not a penalty in my view since he was heading for the deck and it hit his hands as he went down (I seem to remember). If he hadn't put his hands where he did he would have been ploughing the turf with his nose. So ball to hand. As for Solly and the shirt pulling had a good view of that and whilst Solly may have had a grasp of some fabric he was also being fouled at the same time.

The Wagstaff incident leading up to their penalty was a disgrace by both the referee and the linesman and appears not to be included in any of the highlights I have seen in order to avoid the officials further embarrasment. However, it was a clear penalty.

Poor refereeing which in the last season would have seen us lose the game, however we were that much better than Chesterield that it didn't matter in the long run.

I think the assessors reports should be available at the end of the season so fans can see where they have clearly suffered at the hands of poor refs.
 
Yeah the Wiggins handball while i've seen those given it did seem to be ball to hand and accidental as well so no penalty for me either.

A blatant foul on Wagstaff leading upto there goal and while they didn't have to kick the ball out of play you couldn't argue with the penalty given for Chesterfield, that one I think the team can hold there hands up and agree they weren't playing to the whistle and were looking for a foul or Chesterfield to kick the ball out of play.

Can't remember about the Solly incident though.

Agreed, last season we would have drawn that game 2-2 it's hard to not be biased but the ref truly was poor

Solly does seem to have developed the art of minor fouling on the ref's blind side, but on this occasion wasn't he in front of their player ad so it would be hard to tug his shirt?
 
Fair enough on Jacko, from my angle it looked like a soft kick of the ankle when going for the ball but maybe my memory is failing me.

As for Solly he definately did tug the players shirt and even held on to it (amusingly with his hand through the players legs) whilst getting up. But I agree that the player he was marking had fouled him.
 
Oddly I find myself defending a referee that I happily branded as 'not fit to referee'.

Jackson booking - a clear booking professional foul
Wiggins handball - clattered into his arm as he'd fallen to the floor from very close range - no pen
Their penalty a clear penalty - the tumble by Waggy was embarrassing as was his lying on the ground afterwards
The attempt by Solly to remove the guy's shirt through his legs after he'd been fouled was dealt with well by all involved and any kind of card would have shown a common sense and sense of humour bypass
The thing he got wrong was the Taylor fall which was clearly a penalty and should have been called by the lino. Having seen it as no foul the ref had no choice but to book Taylor for diving because there was no other explanation for why he'd be lying on his face. Fortunately it didn't cost us.
 
Waggy can be a bit of a cry baby, so I'm prepared to give the officials the benefit of the doubt on that foul, but the Taylor booking was ridiculous, and you could see after the game how upset he was about it, as for an honest centre back it's a bit of a slur on his character.
 
Have to disagree with most people on the Wagstaff incident. It was right in front of me and I can categorically say that their player won the ball. It was embarrassing seeing Wafstaff roll about after as well. Even when he is fouled, refs are less likely to give it becauuse he's got himself a reputation. Taylor probably was a pen but never ever a dive. Jackson yellow was right to be fair, but thiught Wiggins had his hand by his side so wasn't a pen (also it was very close to the outside of the box. I thought the ref was ok apart from the crazy Taylor decision. I think moments like that is when its not good to be a big team. Refs are so desperate to 'not favour the big teams' that when they're not sure of a decision, they probably won't give it our way.
