Boris Johnson refuses to buy ventilators from existing manufacturers or use the EU procurement scheme and instead hands massive contracts to pro- [HASHTAG]#brexit[/HASHTAG] Tory donors; JCB and the tax-cheat Dyson, who have never before made a ventilator.

It's like millions to a ferry company with no ferries all over again, except people will die.

Johnson declines to join EU buying scheme, as UK suppliers say their offers were ignored

Downing Street has declined to take part in an EU scheme to source life-saving ventilators to treat coronavirus because the UK is “making our own efforts”.

Critics accused Boris Johnson of putting “Brexit over breathing” after No 10 said it did not need to participate in the EU effort to procure equipment to fight coronavirus.

Labour MP David Lammy said: “Why on earth would we not take part in an EU scheme to procure ventilators that we were invited to be part of? I sincerely hope there is a good reason and No 10 is not putting ideology ahead of people’s lives.”
