    Morning, Dave; morning, all. :)

‘Groundhog Day’ was yesterday’s film. We’re putting a lot of effort into making sure life at the moment doesn’t resemble that film too closely!

Then weeding the lawn, or at least a lot of it. Once you get going, it’s quite compelling.

Had to put off a visit to a common to which my parents live opposite. Thought we could keep 2m away and go for a walk with Mater and Pater, but Matej falls into a high-risk group so the current advice knocked that on the head.

‘Escalado’ and ‘Buccaneer’ are today’s board games...

    Morning all.
We are enjoying old black and white films..
    Yesterday, The Lady Vanishes..
I am starting to work through my Indian recipe book too.... But going to have to be creative as food choice becomes more limited.
Try and have a good day folks

On the subject of black-and-whites, yorkshire, I heard a funny story the other day concerning the Marx Brothers.

They were huge stars on Broadway, earning large sums of money, but had been contacted by MGM as to the possibility of making a motion picture. They travelled across the country, from NY to LA, to meet the very brilliant and powerful head of MGM, Irving Thalberg. Thalberg was only in his twenties, about ten years younger than Groucho et al, but of immense importance.

They had an appointment to see him at 10 a.m. at Thalberg’s office, but had to wait until 5 p.m. before Thalberg was ready to see them, because he had so many meetings, meetings running over time and sudden, unscheduled meetings that could not been put off.

“I’ll see you now, gentlemen,” says Thalberg.

Groucho answered for the brothers, “No you won’t. You'll see us tomorrow at 10, and if you don’t see us by 10.30, we’ll walk out of the building.”
The brothers, Groucho later commented, “felt totally humiliated”, and they left the office to return the next day. Wow, nobody spoke to Thalberg like that!

The brothers arrived in time for their 10 a.m. appointment. However, at 10.30 a.m., Thalberg left the building to attend to a production matter.

The brothers went out, bought five large potatoes, and returned. They then explained to Thalberg’s secretary that they would wait in his office for his return.

Then, the Marx genius. They lit a roaring fire, stripped naked, and cooked their potatoes on the grate.

When Thalberg returned two hours later, he found the four naked men in his office eating jacket potatoes, one cooked ready for him.

    Fortunately, he found it hilarious.

“And he was never late for us again!” said Groucho.

Morning all. A lovely bright sunny morning, so a good day for some more gardening. Almost finished getting the bed prepared for the first sowing of peas, so hope to get them in, then keep going and prepare for the mange tout.
Talking to someone in England yesterday who was asking about the restrictions in France over what shops could open. "How do you manage if the clothes shops are closed?" <doh> I did feel like suggesting that we were all going to run around naked, but concluded it would be lost on someone who thinks like that.
Have a good day and hope the sun shines to lighten the gloom. <ok>

Laurel and Hardy are still my favourites but I "got" the Marx Bros. Funniest skit ever though, imho, is the brilliant "Who's on First?" by Abbott & Costello - still beats M&W "Breakfast", MPFC "Parrott", and T2R "four candles" for me.
Chaplin, Keaton and many others made me laugh.
The Tree Stooges I just do not find funny at all.... does /did anyone?

Is this the Irish act? The Three Stooges are funny to me in extremely small doses. I can watch the others at length and repeatedly.

Just been out to close the shutters for the night at the same time that my 93 year old neighbour was doing the same thing. We shouted across the road, but she was concerned and wanted to know that us youngsters were ok. Just as we finished our conversation the district nurse arrived to check up that my neighbour is alright. This is what life should be like. Looking out for each other.

Sorry SH, but I have removed your comment because it was unworthy of you. That was not humour.
