He's scored 6 goals for england. Wow. Impressive. Emile Heskeys scored 7 for England, so I suppose he's class too?
Nah he's **** I think Vassell was a good bit-part player for England. He was good enough to play for England though, unlike Fryatt, who's probably not good enough to play in the Premiership
The only good thing I can remember Vassell doing in an England shirt was breaking Barthez's nose. Otherwise he was pretty poor when I watched him
Sven rated him and still does now. It was at at time when we really only had Michael Owen and David Beckham so Vassell made a good impact sub
Its my opinion that if you are good enought to play for your country that gets into the world cup finals then you are world class. Simple really. However, there are, of course other players who do not make it but are let down by other teams. Just my opinion, its ok if you disagree.
World class means that you are 1 of the best players in the world in your position. The national GK from Luxembourg for i.e is not world class because he plays international football nor is the GK from france if he̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs not that good. I mean look at the spanish GK.. world class FACT & look at England̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs GK or Germany̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs GK.. good but not world class. Name me 50 world class players form GK to FOR because that̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs about all there is in the world. GK - Cassillas DEF - Vidic MID - Ronaldo FOR - Messi There̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs 4 & that̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôs the sort of level you should be calling world class
I wont be able to name 50 but i'll name a few GK - Casillias, Neuer, Lloris, Valdes Def - A Cole (I hate admitting that), Vidic, Metersacker, Pique, Ramos, Evra, Maicon, Mexes, Lahm Mid - Xavi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Sneijder, Silva, For - Higuain, Messi, Villa, Ibra, Suarez, Pato, Torress
Ashley Cole is massively overrated IMO, like most English players. England have no World Class players if you ask me because they are massive failures at International tournaments. Half of sport is technical skill, the other half is mentality. Our players do not have the mentality to cope with the pressure of the World Cup. Some may have World Class talent but that does not make them World CLass players if you ask me.
My opinion is that if you can play in one of 32 teams in a world cup then you are world class. but OBVIOUSLY there are players that are absolutely brilliant. talking about your Drogba's, Casillas's and Messi's. England do have class players. How can you say the Gerrard isn't after winning the Champions league from 3-0 down as captain? How can you say that Rooney isn't with 30+ goals last season in the toughest league in the world? Thats my opinion and therefore I can't be wrong. If Nigeria get to the world cup finals then they are world class because they are in that elite group of teams that have managed to get into the biggest international tournament in the world. Same goes if Spain dont get to the finals.
OK that's your opinion that's fine. But if that is your opinion, then the term World Class isn't much of a compliment at all. TBF I'd say Gerrard is arguably World Class because he has been one of our better performers at International/World Cup level, despite the criticism he gets. Rooney is overrated IMO and the reason I said he isn't World Class (snce you asked) is because he's not coped with the pressure in the big International games. That's just my opinion.
World class to means means you one of the best players in the world. Playing for your country doesnt make you workd class. But thats my opinion
^ agree - simples! I think i recall a certain Kaebi playing for Iran: but he certainly did not light up the stage at the Walkers!
What will Leicester do when the Sven bubble bursts and you're just left with overpaid, overrated journeymen?
World class is used far to often. I agree with your list S82. Cole is said to be the best LB in the world (I heard it on TV sometime not my opinion) so I guess he must be world class going by that. I think you missed Van der Vaart (& Andy King) out of your list but your on the right track & it was the point I was trying to make & I was hoping someone would post players like that because they are what I would call real world class players.
im not saying just the country. to be part of the team to be at a world cup. There are different levels of quality in that class.
What will Hull do when you realise you are not getting promoted and Nigel, Matty, Robert and Aaron leave?
We don't expect to get promoted this season, so I doubt it will be a surprise to anyone if we're not. Having been skint at the start of the season, we've probably given ourselves too much to do to get into the play-offs, we need one of the form teams to balls things up(hopefully Leeds). As for the players mentioned, I quite like Vassell, but he was **** for England and the Yak has talent, but he's really in his early 40's.
That means we have 2 world class players at the moment, Robert Koren who's a world class captain (slovenia captain) and Richard Garcia. Now Koren might be a handy player but he's probably a bottom half premiership player, he wouldn't get into any of the top teams. Richard Garcia although definitely capable at this level, is far from premier league quality and would look 'class' in league 1. Both of these played at the world cup, but neither are world class. A world class player would pretty much walk into a team like Man U or Barca. If you think Richard Garcias world class I think you need to either wake up or get that bump on your head checked out.
