CORONAVIRUS update.
So far Scarborough are still playing their matches, so could still be in for a trip (as long was we all sit a long way from each other!)
However it’s looking likely that since lots of event organisers are ignoring Govt advice and postponing their events anyway, it seems likely the Govt will change their advice soon to make it look like postponing events was their idea anyway.
So my advice for now is keep it in your diary, but don’t buy your tickets yet as the train won’t be that busy anyway. If you have got them then have a check to see if you can get a refund if needed.

mass gatherings, 500+ are going to be banned in the coming week apparently. Then you've got to allow for other the supporters attending as well!

They’ll have to be specific on what a gathering is. Train Station? Tube? Bus? Football? Cinema? Theatre? Place of work?

They could potentially be putting millions out of work.

In my experience if you’re trying to stop cross contamination you have to commit fully or not at all.
Not passing judgement on whether it’s right, just saying it seems they might do it

Interesting thread on what the Govt strategy seems to be (herd immunity)
Surely if it was to work the key would be to completely isolate older people though so hundreds of thousands of them don’t die?

There seems to be a hope that once people have it, they isolate for the time needed to recover so that that person has developed an immunity and not themselves spread it. If people don’t isolate, that could be where this idea falls apart as too many vulnerable people may contract it.

I don’t think that is the Govt plan at all. You might not know for 7 days that you have it so they’re not hoping you won’t spread it because they know you won’t know you have it so will have been spreading it for a week.
Isolation of ill people only delays spread to a level that’s easier for the NHS to deal with instead of everyone getting it at once.
Their plan seems to be to let it spread and hopefully develop Herd Immunity. High risk and many scientists saying it won’t work, but I’m not qualified to comment.
The thing that seems to be missing to me is that if they are letting it spread amongst those most likely to survive, by choosing not to close schools for example (even though I know that would cause its own problems with grandparents looking after kids!) then surely they should be telling older people, and people with underlying relevant health conditions, to isolate now while the rest of us take the hit?
They’re not doing that and has been widely reported herd immunity, even if it does happen without immunisation programmes, needs at least 60% to get it according to Govt advisor (90% reported elsewhere)
Surely that means without vulnerable isolating 60% of them will get it too. That means % of deaths will be high in those and still 1% plus overall = 400,000 dead.
That’s the other reason for delaying the spread I assume. To help mortuaries cope.

'Appears' a calculated risk, which has the potential to backfire astronomically, this compared to comparable countries, the 'plan' also seems to be overtaken by sports bodies , travel, other countries and we don't exist in isolation internationally as factors to change this countries plans, suspect it will.change due to political pressures sooner than the Govt want / plan

It will change due to voter pressure, and the fact that people are ignoring them and cancelling events anyway

Unfortunately, I will not make it, I've decided to postpone my trip back for the time being. I've rebooked for the 6th May, but it's likely even then we won't be out of the woods.

I was really looking forward to it, but I just feel travelling through airports and the like is a bit risky at present.

Stay safe John.

Totally sensible
Look after yourself John

There’ll be other trips

I may be an old cynic but if the majority of the projected 400,000 deaths are pensioners it will save the government a fortune in pension payments. Surely not part of the ‘Herd Immunity’ plan.
