Went down to souths Academy Monday night to watch 15s play some oz team My mates son play in 16s so I tagged along. We have another one the 8 George Mells this kids passing one touch over any distance was amazing his calmness on the ball his stature and ball skill WOW? The he scores from must have been 25 to 30 yards man of Match,my mates tells me he came from Chelsea there loss our big gain go Saints.
What amazes me is that he was only signed by Chelsea a year ago, but very quickly swapped clubs to come to SFC. Just proves the reputation we have at the Academy, that attracts young starlets.
Good to see the Academy recovering from the slump of a few years ago. Cortese believes in it and will spend money on it. Only the very best will get into the first team as we get better and better, but the others will get a good grounding for life in football and elsewhere and we earn money when they move on. Happy days.
How thrilled would you be to get your son in Saints academy, not just for the football but for the discipline and foundation for life. I can tell you it's hard to bring up a lad as a single mum and keep them on the straight and narrow..did it but hard work.
