Pep’s a great manager, anybody who thinks you can buy your way to a league title only has to look at his team this season. It shows just how good they were last season, under immense pressure from Liverpool. The fact that City pay £50m for every player is detriment to their own wealth, United are given exactly the same treatment whenever we want to buy a player who isn’t a bobbing turd from The Championship.
Pep has had the luxury of the best players in the world at Barca and all the financial clout at Bayern and City but what makes him a great manager is the style of football that his teams play to win titles. He doesn't churn out titles like Mourinho, he wins by playing football that every fan enjoys watching (apart from astro).
Ole's at the wheel again! Once it all goes tits up for them, again, I am sure I can recommend another ex legend of theirs that they can hire to replace him.
Thats because Astro isn't a football fan. He is a statistician (if thats a word). He watches a different sport from every one else, which I have dubbed Astroball. In Astroball, all referees where Man Utd tops and have a seething hatred of Liverpool, but that hasn't stopped Liverpool being 12 year back to back Champions of the Astro League.
Cant stand Tiki Taka...there’s more than one way to play the game Give me effective football anyday. Pass, pass, pass...ran out of space let’s start again....yaaaaaaawn I like powerful football...with a bit of directness and the right mix of flair when required. I hate seeing ****s knock it around all day and try to walk it in.
I'd agree with you in terms of preference of style ... but the best managers also make the most of what they have got and Pep has also Donne that irrespective of the transfer budget at his disposal...
The best of what you have got? He’s had anything he’s wanted more or less but that statement suggest he’s a trooper. The best managers don’t make the most of what they have got...they dip into the transfer market. The poor managers make the most of what they have. Pep lost his centre back early in the season and his management seemed to go to ****.
There's nothing clever or attractive about Pep's football. It's just inherit or buy the best squad in the league so you can dominate possession immediately foul your opponents when you lose possession It's anti-football, which is why Pep's teams dominate the tactical fouls stats. The last couple of seasons Klopp has spent a fraction of what Pep has (starting with a far worse squad) and challenged him, while also commiting the fewest tactical fouls in the league. https://theathletic.com/1603079/2020/02/18/tactical-fouls-man-city-arsenal-liverpool/ "Liverpool are the most dominant team in English football history, with 73 points from a possible 75. And yet this season’s side is also the most innocent team on record when it comes to tactical fouls: just 74 of 1,911 opposition turnovers have ended in fouls, a rate of just 3.87 per cent."
You don’t need to resort to tactical fouls...your team knows worst case scenario VAR will step in for you anyway
and of those 74 fouls we committed 68 of them were not tactical but by Milner purely because he is too old to run these days
Poor Pep. Having to make the most of spending a quarter of a billion pound per transfer window. What a trooper!
He spends big but either he buys well or he makes players look good. Compare the players he's bought with his gajillions to the ****e that United have bought since Fergie retired.
Yeah, Pep's talent is knowing exactly how he wants his football played, and identifying the players he feels would best suit that system. Then he just says to his club "Want that one!" and the club spare no expense in getting them, for the most part. Aint saying Pep is ****e, but its just like when you play FIFA, if you used a money cheat, its only gonna be a matter of time before you start winning.
I reckon we could recognise the players we want to play the system we desire. But it comes down to the money men and decision makers above the management...they back you right or they don’t. Pep has always managed Clubs with owners that are ambitious to succeed on the pitch. Barca are always in for the cream of the crop Bayern always sign the cream of the crop in Germany at least City we all know about
