Not true. He had already won the Champions League with Porto before taking over at Chelsea (as well as 2 Portuguese league titles, the Portuguese Cup and the UEFA Cup). After his first stint at Chelsea, he twice won Serie A with Inter, plus the Champions League again, and then La Liga with Real Madrid.
But other than those, what's he ever achieved? Spurs fans saw the FA Cup as their chance of silver. Shame we got in the way of that. Does Jose regret attempting to defend a one goal lead? I wonder.
I doubt it. I thought his post-match comments were entirely fair actually. Jose likes good wine, not sour grapes.
Looks like Mourinho can do no wrong in your eyes. I have nothing against him personally but in my opinion his dull, defensive brand of football does not deserve to succeed. His arrogant, " know it all attitude "used to amuse in the old days , but he is no longer the special one, but more of a dinosaur who still believes you can bore teams to death . You no doubt would have been much happier if it had been him, rather than Farke , who had got us promoted, even though the football on offer would have made the Hughton era seem comparatively exhilarating . Each to their own I guess, as we all appreciate different aspects of the game, but your ott praise of Mourinho has reaffirmed, that in your eyes, Farke will never be the answer.
0-2 at half time leaves Derby a big mountain to climb. Hard on them because they've played well and had a near miss with Rooney's free-kick.
Mike, if you are really of the opinion that a "dull, defensive brand of football" correctly sums up Mourinho's style of play, then you clearly didn't see much of his Champions League winning Porto team, or his title-winning Chelsea team, or his Champions League winning Inter Milan team, or his title-winning Real Madrid team (while at Inter and Madrid, his teams twice established new records for the number of goals scored in a season in their respective leagues). As regards DF, I've said nothing that implies he "will never be the answer"; all I've said is that his current approach is flawed and that next season will provide the proof of the pudding as to whether he has it in him to address the flaws.
I really don't get your hostility to DF. In his short time at the club he and Webber have transformed it. The club is in a really good position financially, he's got us promoted to the PL when no one including the most optimistic of Norwich fans expected it and got us to the quarter finals of the FA cup for the first time in most fans memory and he's done all this playing the sort of exciting football most fans want to see whilst playing and developing youngsters.
The current approach is flawed ? If anything we have been undone by our own success, inasmuch that promotion to the Premiership has perhaps come too early bearing in mind we have such a young inexperienced squad. The long term plan of developing young players so they become comfortable and suited to playing a possession based attacking brand of football, is one that I expect will reap rewards for years to come.. Young promising players will want to come to Norwich and the big clubs will also be keen to loan us their young stars of the future because they know they will be educated in playing football the "right way". As a result we stand a good chance of becoming a self funding club and hopefully establishing ourselves in the top flight. .
DF made mistakes early in the season by over commiting to attack when our defence was decimated. That worked against Newcastle but failed against may others. He changed that against ManCity and we were fortunate to score with our only shots on target. Gradually he shifted towards a more balanced approach and our performances improved. Over recent months our results have improved but that needs to continue (4-1-3). DF has learned and adjusted the balance. Injuries still occur, but we are now better able to cope with them as the Liverpool, Leicester and Spurs results show.
Am I right in thinking that Wednesday was the first time this season we have come from a losing position to get a positive result ?
I believe the last time we came back to win a Premier League game after going a goal down was against Watford in 2016
Whilst it looks probable that they have turned things around, it is a little early to say for sure or really give them all credit. We have been here before. Under Lambert and McNally we came back from the financial precipice with a poor squad and no money. The differnce being, that even if we stay up, it is difficult to argue that Lambert did not do so more convincingly, with whilst not so youthful, a similarly inexperienced squad, relative to the PL. Fallowing 3 seasons in the PL of course we made mistakes but still bounced back, then made bigger ones. So has Farke really performed well this season? we will only know by the finish and the real proof will out itself at the conclusion of next season. But I'm to an extent with Robbie in so much as he cannot be above criticism specially when he appears not to learn or adapt. I still think Farke has a ways to go before he can compete with Lambert. When I can watch us defend a corner without having palpatations, when we stop creating most of our opponents chances, when we can actually take a throwin and then keep the ball and when he actually starts to use subs proactively (Spurs might have been the start!) I think he may just be getting there. As for sorting the club, yes by not spending our PL millions and this latest batch of younguns value going up, we look financially secure. But this was not all the work of Webber or DF. We were already cat1, the Murphy's and Maddison on which W&F built their success were part of an already formulated if not fully functioning youth strategy. WTF they were thinking when Naismith was signed is beyond me! So yes, Farke does some things very well, his football is very entertaining when its working but he has shown his inexperience in places and for me more worryingly he has shown a stubborness to change or adapt even when things are clearly not working. I still think he is a very good coach and am glad he is here and support that for the forseeable. But he ain't the messiah. Bah!
