Just had a Google and apparently thats an old wives tale.

Ive got some lemons, ill juice them and put in a spray bottle with some water, they dont like citrus so it goes
 
Could do with some anti spider advice actually Mrs luv and my daughter make a massive fuss and I have to deal with it.

You never seen im i celeb. Toby is right once you have loads of them day in day out you will eventually get over your fears

Now you know that cupboard that the missus sometimes puts you in, you need to put her in there with the spiders and leave her exposed for a while. After that guaranteed she will not suffer from arachnophobia anymore

I don't mind spiders but when I have to get one out of the house it's sometimes under furniture and I'll get a bollocking from the wife if I lose one so we have this. It works quite well.

I actually think @Quesadaad had some really good advice. Get a tarantula & let it loose in the house. Scare the wife and kids then collect it and return it to the pet shop. It'll make the normal house spiders seem pathetic and they won't get scared anymore.

OR convince them that tarantulas are afraid of the normal house spiders and they're keeping them at bay <ok>
