understand your point, but the 3% is skewed by the fact that most of the cases are from Wuhan where they weren’t prepared for or able to diagnose people infected who didn’t end up in hospital. Fatalities are lower elsewhere in China. That said it’s early stages so who knows how reliable any figures are.

The danger is real but so is the hype. Flu kills c1% of those that catch it but because it does it on an ongoing yearly basis nobody talks about the estimated c 500,000 people a year that die from it.

It’s less of a killer in western societies with good infrastructures and better health/healthcare so it’s not deemed newsworthy.

As an aside, I have a personal hatred for the 24/7 news saturation we get these days, where you can guarantee that after the first fatality some insipid reporter will interview the neighbours cat for an in depth opinion on the colour of the victim’s skirt.

Err ..........you don’t need to convince me about the Express.

I think I said it was more than just something to sell papers. I didn’t say they wouldn’t use it for that.

Actually that’s quite restrained by Express standards.

I agree with some of that. But I think you may be wrong on dismissing the 3%.
First, it is 3% of total known cases, less than half the cases are resolved, which means either people recover or die. In fact 8% of resolved cases have ended up with death (though I dont think that means there will end up being an 8% rate).

Also the death rates in some European countries is not great:

France 2 deaths in 17 cases so far
    Italy 12 deaths in 374
I’m picking the bad ones ;)

smart guy that I know you to be, you will have spotted my caveat of ‘too early to tell’ depending on the model/criteria you use you can get it to about 12% or less than 1 %! On one side there are people who have contracted it who will die but haven’t yet. On the other there are people who have caught the virus, showed no or minor symptoms and are fine but have never been counted as having had it.

The simple answer is that the Mexicans put the wedge of lime in to keep the flies out. Then it became fashionable elsewhere ..... Troo dat!

I must tell my son and grandson this, they are both Corona drinkers and love their lemon/lime in their drink.

the simple answer is there is no simple answer except that Mexicans don’t put lime in their beers!

I’d heard a few variations, my bar tender many years ago told me they cleaned the bottle top with the lime as it was getting drunk from the bottle. So they’d wipe with one slice of lime and insert another. Seemed plausible enough. According to this, there is no definitive answer:
