He hasn't had a stellar career, he made his name with us. I think he seems level headed and not fame hungry. He suits us perfectly and I don't put him in the - now get me to Real/Barca as quick as you can - bracket.

When do they ever got to a "challenge" though? That's a euphemism players use when they want out for one reason or another, and they always look to go to another top team where they'll win things.
I'd have thought our success would make players want to stay and be part of a run of further successes. The only thing that we don't offer at the moment is the very highest wages.

One player who I believe the rumours are true is Kai Havertz. He has the tools and the skills to replace Firmino. Technically sound, brilliant on the turn and can score a goal. Considering his age and the hyper inflated market we operate in, he is an ideal signing. This breakdown video shows why I think we may be in for him

I agree with this. I'd just add though that another thing we don't offer is 'glamour'. That glamour comes in the form of location or ( without an attractive location) continued, sustained success - think Bayern or the utd of former years.

That's because you love Liverpool Football Club and probably have done since being a young child. You are affiliated to the club and would never consider being associated to another.

Football players players aren't like fans (well, most aren't). The love a club for sure but they can equally love another. They don't have the same commitment we do.

As for challenge, maybe winning different trophies in another country to add to their connection is a better way of putting it.

PS... failing that, there's always the weather!

Very impressive little video. If he can keep his armpits onside then it's a yes from me.

Of course I do, and have.
I'm well aware that footballers usually don't have the same feelings towards any club they play for, though some do gain it if they are particularly happy at one. We are still a big name on the world stage though, and if we continue to do well we'll regain some of the status of yesteryear.
A couple of years ago, the media, pundits and everyone were convinced that City would dominate for a decade or more, and I think that's why players like Can, and to a certain extent Coutinho (though he had his Barca goggles on), chose to leave. It seemed like no matter how good we were City would still beat us to everything.
I think we're a much more attractive proposition now.

    Your last point's a good shout. <ok>

Calumny. What could be more glamorous than Merseyside on a cold wet February evening?

As a club, we are as good a proposition as anyone else if not better. That means players will want to play for us but it doesn't mean they'll necessarily want to only play for us.

Liverpool are preparing to sell Marko Grujic for a mammoth profit this summer, Football Insider understands
The central midfielder, who turns 24 in April, has established himself as a Bundesliga star during his two seasons out on loan at Hertha Berlin.

So if we were to believe the rumours...

    Out:
    Wilson - £30m
    Shaq - £25m
    Grujic - £20m
    Lallana - free

    £75m incoming

    In
    Werner - £50m
    Sancho - £100m
    Left Back - £10m

    £160m out

    £85m net spend.

it just won’t happen unless one of the current front 3 exits.

You expecting us to go all out at LB then... <laugh>

IMO, we'll sign one of Sancho, Havertz or Werner (probably the latter) unless Salah goes, then it'll be two of them.

I don't want us to spend the amount we'd need to on Sancho. I've said all along I think Werner is the most likely.

On a serious note, who do you expect to be leaving?
none of the players mentioned or (more importantly these days) their agents are going to sign as bench warmers. They are all young but already have made a name in the game, they will expect to be first team/pick.
