I watched a film yesterday I'd never heard of called "Uncut Gems" It was Adam Sandler, in my opinion, in probably his best role. I like him but most of his recent stuff has been poor at best. This was tremendous. Dark, very deep and totally unexpected. Didn't know what to expect from the trailer but I was completely gripped!! Anyone else seen it or seen anything you didn;t expect to be great but turned out it was?
Old now bit I begrudgingly went with an ex to see Cinema Paradiso. Never in a million years did I think I would like it ( going by the previews ) but it was excellent.
I'll give Uncut Gems a watch, I've heard it was good. It's usually horror films that take me by surprise as more often than not the ones that the critics think are crap are the ones I end up enjoying more than the films the critics rave about. A couple I was expecting to be dire but turned out pretty good were Annabelle and As Above so Below, not saying they're classics but better than the high concept low in scares films that the critics love.
Only saw Cabin in the Woods recently. Was expecting a run of the mill, kids getting picked off by monster(s). It was a little bit more than that.
Yeah. That was a masterpiece. Strangely enough, the director's cut, with an extra twenty minutes or so was so much poorer. My own choice would be a japanese animation called Spirited Away. Delightful film.
Can't remember being so gripped by a film for years mate! Great direction and writing IMO, and, as I say, Sandler is superb
It was given very good reviews and was a blockbuster anyway, but not the sort of film I would choose to see, but as it was a charity screening I was taken to see A Star Is Born. I thought it was an exceptional film.
me and the mrs watched that last night mate great film, weird seeing him in a serious film but I loved it.
I remember Sandler playing a straight role in an film called Punch Drunk Love, think his character was having a mental breakdown and it wasn't remotely supposed to be funny, he was good in it. I've been watching a series called Kidding where Jim Carrey plays a famous kids tv presenter who starts losing his ****, there is dark humour in it but he's pretty much playing it totally straight it's the other characters that get the funny bits. He's good in the role too but if you've always hated him I doubt it'd convert you.
I've watched loads of films over the years but I can;t remember talking about one as much as I have this!!! Loved it
The American remake of The Italian Job.. Fantastic film and much better than the original. Only joking.. It was absolutely gash..
Watched that uncut gems the other night but had to pause it half way through to have a pretty big poo. Ran out of paper as well. Film was good like.
When I was about 13/14, I was encouraged/forced to sit down and watch Kind Hearts and Coronets one Christmas. All I knew about was it was in black and white and made in about 1643. No way was I interested in that ancient rubbish. It blew my mind. What an absolutely amazing film. Genuinely changed my life (in terms of the kind of films that I watch).
Great movie as is Our Man in Havana, The Captains Paradise and many other Alec Guinness comedy classics, they really do grow on you, so far none of my offspring have had that road to Damascus moment yet, its getting late, but I keep trying. please log in to view this image
You cannot beat Clint...Unforgiven was on the other night brilliant His Dirty Harry movies are still unsurpassed, plus of course the Spaghetti westerns I have not seen 1917 yet, but several have said how good it is. Comedy etc that Curtis fella generally is very good
