Yep, there too, that was a day to forget. Remember the bleedin' awful train and the nice policemen who nearly nicked me for the temerity to have some "refreshments" on me. Took me dad as a thank you for the money he spent in '73 on ALL the cup run, he told me never to do that again!! <rofl>

I remember afterwards all the SAFC lads were laughing it off and having a good time and the Norwich lot looked like they'd just had a 6 - 0 spanking ... surreal!

I was there, game was ****, Asa Hartford deflected goal I think????? All a little embarrassing. Best part about the cup run was beating the ''binners'' in the semi-final. Steve Bruce scored the winner. Should have been in Europe the following season but we got banned because of Liverpool and the Hysel Stadium disaster. Then we get relegated, what **** season that turned out to be!!!
Can't wait till Monday, will be watching online after I have finished work with a very cold beer.................OTBC<party>

I remember quite a bit about it.
The deflected goal off Gordon Chisholm, the penalty miss by Clive Walker, the handball to give away the penalty and the near miss volley from Mark Barham and me climbing the fence when we scored and celebrating like a mad thing.

The biggest and perhaps best memory was the friendliness between the two sets of supporters before, during and after the game. Have had a great fondness for the Black Cats since that day <ok>

I was with me dad at the final and I remember it being very friendly and swapping scarves with a Norwich supporter. The Semi final at Stamford Bridge will live longer in the memory though. There was total chaos in the organisation outside. We were late getting in and for some crazy reason, they put about 40 of us in the division between our supporters and the Chelsea lot. All I remember after we went 2-1 up was seeing about 300 Chelsea supporters charging towards us. This appeared a life or death situation so I gained some kind of superhuman strength and somehow managed to scale the 10 foot dividing wall and get into the main Sunderland end. By then the mounties had blocked them off and i'd made 33 quid in pound coins aimed at our heads. We were all kept in the ground for a while after the match and I remember finding it really ironic that one of the worst areas of the ground for trouble, with seats ripped out etc, was revealed in big letters, as the family enclosure. This match sadly was a contributing factor towards the Hillsborough disaster as the general consensus after that was to pen the fans in behind massive fences, like zoo animals.

Here is a tv link to that night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXsUJ6wQihM

I remember that too (as well as both Semi Finals against Ipswich)
Just a few years later the scenes were very similar in the league relegation/promotion play off game with Middlesbrough. Hard to take relegation for some I guess.

I was at my grandparents watching it on TV - it's the only wembley appearance in my lifetime that I have not been to!! (That includes that stupid mercantile thing)

I have now decided that wembley appearances and Sunderland don't mix!!

I remember the final whistle going and me being a really bad loser and turning the telly off at my Granparents house at the end - then being told to turn it back on by my Grandma!! My Dad was there!

SAFC v Norwich always reminds of my Grandparents (both died quite a while ago) because of this - I love the fixture

I can clearly remember coming back from the final.

As the coaches got onto the motorway a Norwich coach passed us & a lass took her knickers off & held them up to the window. I just wanted to jump buses at that time.

Later on we stopped at a service station, I got back on thr wrong coach as I was well pissed.

I recall nothing else untill I awoke the next day in a flat in Doxy Park.

That's SAFC fans for you, looking after their own.

Got docked a days pay like as I missed graft.

    Anyway, **** em.

Just picking up on that point about Clive Walker being a cockney, I remember talking to him in Annabels some time after that final and he was genuinely gutted to have missed that penna and he was also sad that sunderland fans thought of him as a cockney as he said he hated the f...ers even though he'd played for Chelsea, anyway just googled him and he was born in Oxford.
