Back in the day every team played 4-4-2 and it was all rather predictable. Now the foreign coaches have inserted a high pressing game with interchangeable tactics and formations constantly happening in the game. The players are fitter and stronger than they've ever been and it shows with the more passing and attacking football that we see now.

They hammered everybody by 3 or 4 goals back then, anyway. I doubt the odd penalty would have made any difference to their 25 years of domination.

They didnt, whereas its a matter of fact that a decade went by before opposition teams got a penalty at old Trafford

Neville was found out in Spain. He has a high profile here as a pundit but I treat his comments on tackling with a bucket of salt

Football has changed, Neville isn't wrong. Every few decades someone comes along and changes the game significantly in terms of tactics and approach. You've got Queens Park in Scotland in the late 19th century, the 'Danubian school' in the 20s and 30s, the Hungarians in the 50s, Brazil in the late 60s, Total Football in the 70s, and in the 70s and 80s the POMO theory, Pep and his approach in the 2010s. And I'll have missed some out. Interestingly, you can draw a direct line back, through various coaches and managers, from Pep, through total football, the Hungarians of the 50s, to the Danubian school.
