I'd rather have him than not. If Ade were to get injured that would leave just Defoe and Pav <yikes> to get the goals, without VDV. So, yes I think we should hang on to him.

Well if he did go,along with Pav and Gomes that would give us enough money to get another striker and keeper.Would rather he stayed but i think our 442 can work just fine without him.

We won't get a better player than VdV for anything like £12m and 442 is the problem, not the solution, at least against the best teams

Absolutely agree that we should keep him - quality players are hard to lure. We should ideally be looking to shed the last few average players such as Gomes, Pav, Bassong and Dos Santos, and sign a couple of further quality players such as Leandro and Tasci/Cahill.

I think he's a quality player and Spurs would be mad to sell him, it's a long season and he will get his chances for you guys.
You don't become a poor player overnight and he was top drawer last season, has goals and class in him.
His fitness or lack of pace won't really hurt him as he ages as he's more about quality and finesse than power.

£12m would be an insultingly low bid, in my opinion.
Have they been talking to Chelsea?

We've still yet to see whether van der Vaart and Adebayor can form an effective partnership.
That could be the solution to the problem of how to get the best out of him.
A good run in the side from the right of midfield with Walker at right-back might be an effective alternative.
We could even try a 4-5-1 if he plays there, with Parker and Sandro protecting the back four and Modric playing a more advanced role.

If we'd have done our business in the transfer market early on and we hadn't been plagued with injuries, then we might have had a chance to experiment a little in pre-season.
Unfortunately that wasn't the case.

I also like this formation, either against big teams or away. In the 4-4-2, right now I'd rather have Krancjar, not so much because he's better than VDV as because he wants less of the ball, and generally tries to make the right play rather than the spectacular one. With Ade, Bale and Modric, VDV seems one flair player too many--and too inclined to shoot from a distance.

But I'd much prefer to keep him. He'll be needed at some point, maybe soon.

I don't really think of Modric as a flair player, RWAEB.
He can do some spectacular things in a game, but he's generally pretty efficient.
Rarely gives the ball away and works hard for the team.

If he could take a penalty, then I'd suspect that he's really German.

Talkbollocks = Dross.

Sell VdV...ridiculous, there will be games like last season where we need an extra man in MF and leave one up top, Ade. It wasn't successful last year due to the wrong player up top, so it should work now. We got away with it for a few games with him and Crouch, but it wasn't long before other teams sussed out that one dimensional hoof and knockdown approach. As already said, Niko and Modders won't stay fit and play all games either...thats if Mod doesn't do one in Jan! <yikes>. I'm waiting to see his reaction to this alleged new deal, if he says he'll wait till jan I fear the worst. In summary, VdV must stay.
