I couldn’t be arsed to go in the end, partly because my son was still asleep at 2pm and also because it was raining, but the scum bastards lost heavily. Go Brakes, if that’s not an oxymoron.
How in the name of football was Pukki offside yesterday...... Var's sole purpose seems to be disallowing goals.....shocking that it's come to this....
Offside by a mile, can't you see that man?... What makes it worse is the camera angle, how can they say that is a clear and obvious error?...
Gonna be trouble in the East End of Glasgow tonight as Rangers hold on and beat Celtic. Bit of a crazy last few minutes, with red cards for Morelos (what a surprise) and one of the coaches from the Rangers bench after Morelos dives in the area in the 94th minute. Good, full-blooded game to watch though
Because there has to be a line if you're using technology. I think I'd prefer to get rid of VAR tbh. Though we'll obviously then go back to people saying "how the hell did the linesman not see that offside etc etc".
I'd scrap VAR for offsides. I reckon It'd be better to put up with the odd poor decision than to have perfectly good goals disallowed because someone's nostril hair was in an offside position. Level is onside. Maybe it can be retained to draw the ref's attention to obvious errors on fouls, handballs or diving, but it must be the onfield ref that makes the final call in those circumstances.
I think I heard on the telly last night (Guinness had been taken) that pre VAR the officials got 97% of offside decisions right. Good enough for me. If I heard correctly, not sure how to check. The whining about VAR has got worse than the whining about refs. Just change the rules from ‘level’ to daylight between last defender and the striker and it all gets easier.
You're right about the statistics. I agree about making level onside, but there'll still be a line and people will still say that his big toe was just ahead of the line.
The big toe, armpit thing has only become an issue this season because VAR has made it an issue...….before VAR nobody would have argued that Pukki as an example was offside, or the Wolves one yesterday was offside because it would have been impossible for the linesman to see it, to all intense and purposes both were level with the last defender therefore onside...…. VAR should only be used for "clear and obvious" errors, Ashley Young was a "clear and obvious" error, those above were not...….
I think the point is, is that the linesman cannot see the big toe or armpit or hair in an off side position...he makes a decision (rightly or wrongly) on bigger things like whole legs and bodies. He will always miss the big toe by a few millimetres offside but on the whole so will the fans. I know we all shout for offside when the opposition score a goal, but very few of us shout it with real conviction and belief that we are 100% right. I would so like to go back to those days Surely the answer is to have VAR, but let the ref make the decision from a pitch side monitor. He will have in his own mind the decision he made on the pitch in real time, and so then he must be convinced by VAR that he is wrong. I would guess then he will be slightly biased (say 60:40) in his own favour...but he did have the best view in real time
The sensible thing would be to look at the centre of gravity, attacker versus last defender. In most of these dubious cases you can easily tell if there’s a clear advantage or not. Failing that, use the leading shoulder.
The point is if you have technology you have a line. It's unavoidable. If you're going to leave it to the officials then we don't need VAR.
Look at the angle on the Pukki 'goal', is it a clear and obvious error? The nit-picking of the technology is making a mockery of such decisions especially as the referees/linos were always supposed to favour the attacking side if in doubt. Unless the rule is changed to remove the more ludicrous body parts included the game is becoming farcical. I think it should apply to the front foot only as it is 'football' and they are in contact with ground...
In the examples of this weekend the ref/linesman thought they were onside.....therefore like cricket there should be a refs call......var would still work fine to right a clear and obvious error.....
The Pukki goal was ludicrous. Just made a mockery of the whole thing. The positioning of the lines is subjective and the technology isn’t accurate enough for a marginal offside. Either scrap it for offsides or do an umpire’s call where it’s outside the margin of error of the camera slides.
