There is a record player in there with them which was also my uncles but I wouldn’t know if it still works or not. I do remember it being one of those high tech ones that let you stack records on top of each other and it would then attempt to drop the bottom one onto the turntable, which if I’m not mistaken would then just drop the full lot. Obviously that was after spending 20 minutes trying to get them to stay at the top of the Centre column without falling down before you started it...<laugh>

Trust me mate, I know my turntables. If the drop mech is ****ed, just play one record at a time.

Record players are very reliable in general. The only problem you might encounter is if the stylus broken, but you will probably be able to get a new one.

A mate of mine once sawed a stereogram (remember those?) in half ‘cos he couldn’t a new stylus in!

I think Americans called radiograms, combined record player and radio, stereograms. We tended to use stereogram for the two stereoscopic images which gave a 3D effect. They were quite a luxury back in the 1950s and 1960s. First time I heard stereo was on one at a mate’s about 1962. It was as you said a warm, comfy sound. Not as accurate as hi if systems just a few years later.
Singles were issued in both mono and stereo until 1968. The first record in stereo to hit the charts was this, sales were a combination of mono and stereo. It also has the distinction of being written by a Vice President of the USA.

It’s time to talk drinks snacks and nibbles gentlemen and ladies.

not a whisky drinker but I had a few gills of Bowmore 18 last night.recommended by a colleague.
Very nice too.
The Ritz Crackers were good too <laugh>

Booze shopping done yesterday, although need a few more bits today.

all the usual (went for cans of Heineken for the standard volume drink for guests...5% and bigger than bottles)
Tanquerey as the standard gin option (fevertree tonic of course) although few open bottles of flavoured gin already (Rhubarb and Rose for example)
That Russian vodka in the slightly odd shaped bottle (because no one will be drinking vodka neat or as martinis so no point in Grey Goosing it)
Di Sarrono of course (weirdly kids drink it with cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime)
Talking of which there’s so many limes and lemons that they’ve had to get their own bowl as they fruit bowls full.
Gone for Glenlivet Founders Reserve for the ‘everyday’ scotch (The best stuff is hidden away!) Bowmore 18 is a great call though.
Champagne - Rose with breakfast, normal with dinner
Other stock of tequila (El Jimador because it’s 100% agave) etc etc is ready if needed
Mixture of reds, but white is all Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Need to pick port up today

Had a bit of a ‘clear out’ of spirits which didn’t have much left in the bottle the other day. Random stuff like a Creme Brûlée liqueur for example! Mrs Tash confused why I was slurring when all I’d been apparently doing was tidying the garage!

Just been given a bottle of Filey single malt First Release. Looking forward to tucking into that one. Be interesting to see how it compares to yer Speyside single malts.

You don’t need alcohol to enjoy yourself (Mrs Barchullona). It is easy to give up drinking if you accept things won’t be as much fun(Clive James). I know which I go along with.

maybe your taste buds are more refined than mine but do not see the justification for the price of Fever Tree over other tonics. Used to get Tanqueray but find if mixed you may as well have Beefeater. Though go for the Aldi one now, can’t go wrong at £15 for a litre. Even Mrs B likes it.
As for Disarono, if that was the only drink there was I would go teetotal.
Looking at the crappy beers my kids like, Carling and Fosters I feel a failure as a parent.

Holding off doing a booze run until I've raked in all I'm gonna get from various work related scams.

So far:

Big box of Brewdog Punk IPA from Secret Santa.

7 bottles of red (all of questionable vintage) from colleagues and other assorted ****s.

A single bottle of spiced ale put on my desk for no discernible reason.

Something that isn't Champagne, Processco or Cava but is probably very fizzy - unwanted raffle prize.


Disappointed at the lack of spirit this Christmas - in every sense of the word.

Aldi gin very good

I do have finely honed taste buds though...
