Right I am prepared to open the politics thread up if I’m given a few assurances that normal discussions can take place. I really don’t give **** whether you like Corbyn or Johnson or whoever. It is your right to express your opinions. Any name calling, or if I consider it bullying or derogatory remarks I will close the thread and it will be for good. This Forum has gone down hill because people have not liked the attitude of certain posters. They criticise them bully them and degrade them. That has been the general tone of the complaints. If you do not like the way this board is run then I suggest you do not come on it.
If I get the assurances I will open it for debate........over to you no arguments please ........
I think that’s the right decision, and I personally will certainly try not to get too heated, and definitely not personal. I think the disagreements have fallen short of bullying but that is my opinion, which everyone is absolutely fine to disagree with.

Same here.

To coin a phrase, let's get it done.

Then we can focus on more important issues, like the west ham game

Just a quick clarification required Mods,

When a number of different posters all happen to disagree with an individual, or a small group and all have strong opinions, is that bullying, or is it more like the Anti-bullying Alliance definition below?

"the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face to face or online"

I haven't seen any of the above behaviour, so would be disappointed for a thread to be closed on the basis that bullying is occurring.

If you want an ex-mod's opinion: if everyone disagrees openly with one person, the moderators can judge whether the opposition is excessive and personal and whether the person is being preyed upon, rather than being criticised for their views. The person is discussed by the round of mods and a decision is come to. It is not up to one moderator. If a moderator decides make an action alone, then he/she will be questioned by the other active moderators and be backed or not. If the action is excessive, then he/she may well be asked to question his/her position. Nobody is infallible or immune to criticism or censure. It's only fair to members.

It’s not about having different opinions it’s when it starts to get personal. Ganging up on one person and is easily spotted in my opinion. Sometimes you have to be on the outside looking in. Which at times is not easy for a moderator especially when you agree with majority. You just have to be neutral which is sometimes very difficult.

Good point. I guess, as an ex-mod, I am the ideal person to be on the outside, looking in.

A bit like Corbyn and a second Brexit referendum.

I'm afraid I'm going to take issue with that Beddy. It is not your sole decision whether a thread of importance stays open or closed. You have to consult with your fellow mods. They may decide to back you or not, but you must consult. If it was a minor event, of course you would be supported. But if it is a contested point then you can't close threads as to your whim.

I do not have to do any such thing..........I have always been able to overrule any decisions made on here as I have done today. We will listen to any suggestions regarding the forum but moderating is not open to a discussion.

That wasn't the case when I was a mod. What happened since? I thought you'd stepped down anyway? You were always saying you were going to?!?
