Swansea to sacrifice the academy for transfer funds

Swansea City are considering selling their academy training ground at Landore to raise funds for signings. The club have space to accommodate the academy at their Fairwood first-team complex, but the move may result in the youngsters having fewer pitches and could have implications for their Category One status.

Manager Steve Cooper has reservations about the plan, which is yet to be signed off, as youth development is close to his heart. He has spent the bulk of his career as an academy coach at Wrexham, Liverpool and with the FA. Swansea are also looking at other ways of raising money, such as seeking fresh investment.

It also seems that Swansea Council has claimed back a hundred and thirty thousand pounds after

Successfully contesting Liberty Stadium Court case.

And to think that the Council were ready to side with Pearlman and stitch up the Ospreys.......

The club has punched well above their weight for far too long and it was bound to catch up with them eventually, Far to many mistakes were made by Jenkins and pearlman while we were in the premiership that got us relegated and they dont have the money coming in like they use too and something has got to give and sadly the academy side of things will now pay the price. The club cannot run as if it is still in the premiership no matter what anyone says and debts have to be paid and cutting down expenditure is the only thing they can do....

I wonder what debts , you seen the books? They cannot take the parachute money but they can take money by selling assets.

Got to ask...…..what value is there in the training facility? I'm not up with land values locally nor whether there is the possibility to turn it into building or shopping development. But there can hardly be much demand when all clubs locally already have facilities or cannot afford to buy one. Of course, the operating costs will be saved.

No idea , its not exactly in a prime spot to build houses as you have to pass the Bowls club to get in with the outdoor green to the left and the indoor to the right, the road link although good is still limited with the Tawe one side and the bypass the other side. Housing unlikely but who knows with the corruption of the planning department I suppose anything can be built if the palms are greased enough , Costa coffee anyone ?

One of the coaching staff (who will remain unknown) has told me the following - everyone who works at the academy has known all season that they plan to sell off the academy site at Landor,( which costs £5 million per season to run) and move the under 18s squad to Fairwood to join the 1st team and under 23s squad. All younger age groups will be moved to other venues around the area. The academy will go from cat 1 to cat 3.

All the staff know this and many are leaving now ( you only have to look at the adverts on the club site for physics and coaches to see this fact)
If anyone knows anyone thinking of applying for one of these job, tell them to leave well alone as they will be out of the job at the end of this season.
Nigel Rees ( head of academy) is working hard wiith Trevor Birch and Gareth Davies ( Swans accountant) to finalise the deal in readiness for next season. This has nothing to do with making any funds available to strengthen the 1st team.

All the above facts are 100% correct ( as will be soon proved) -Jaxson1

There you have it, this is what happens when you sell to vultures...............<ok>

No real surprise there. The surprise would have been if they had actually put some money into THE CLUB and not other peoples pockets. Cue Dai.

I'm sure he's biding his time and complying a witty and intellectual response but in the meantime I'll just post this . if Dai is happy and contented that the Club need to make cuts because we're no longer in the PL then he'd better start accepting that " austerity" (I hate that ****ing word) comes at a price (pun intended ) and that is we will not be able to compete with the likes of W Brom who for example have a one player in on loan who's costing them 8 million for the privilage . We are a mid table side who had a decent start but for what ever reason and there are many the wheels have come off the wagon .There is no financial support for the Club we are screwed in that respect as long as the yanks have a say in the Club so please take a deep breath and think before you post any more asinine comments .
