there are a number of differing claims regarding the release clause in the recent contract . If ,and it is a big if, the £25m is correct & apples now there is 1 obvious fly in the ointment wjich would be he would expect mega wages as the fee was low.

Other problem is Bayern will be all over it and possibly a more attractive option for him.

Yeah TBF that's exaggeration for the sake of making a point.

Alisson, Ederson, Schmeichel, and Kepa... so really only 16 teams he'd walk into unopposed.

Garbage like De Gea and Pickford routinely underperform but the media refuse to criticise like they would with Karius.

Which is especially weird when you consider their relative fees. Imagine if Pickford wasn't English...

Also helps that those teams have zero to play for and so zero to lose, whereas Karius got us to a CL final but then had a CL final to lose.

I think it would be fair to say that if he was playing at a lower level to us in the PL that his occasional mistakes would not be so news worthy.

Alright chill was only messing <laugh>
That list posted is good though
There are a few misses but there would have to be , only natural
What is good is we seem to not be being beasted by everyone we buy off, at the other end we appear to be offloading better too. All round improvements I would say
So yes I do trust the scouts and management team :emoticon-0110-tongu

The criticism Karius receives is solely based on the disappointment of Kiev. He made a poor mistake and followed it up with another in a
high profile game. But I do think it shattered his confidence and Klopp was right to replace.
On Fraser, is he top of the assists table or near to it? Just remember seeing a stat recently. We could be looking at another bargain?

No offense, but I really wish people wouldn't make sweeping statements like this. I had no confidence in him from the start.
To say that criticism of him is based on one game is simply wrong. He'd already been dropped in the previous season due to below-par performances, but Klopp was determined he was going to make him his No.1. It was one of the manager's few mistakes.

None taken, but I don't remember too much criticism of Karius before Kiev. It would be interesting to look back at that season on this forum.

Here are two of my own quotes from October 2016 in a thread discussing who would play against Utd.
I wasn't harsh, because I want all our players to do well, but I think it's obvious that I was somewhat underwhelmed by him at that stage - and it just got worse.

His handling wasn't great, he seemed unable to judge the flight of the ball and generally looked like a kid in a man's game. He was dropped (by December, I think), but Klopp was determined to re-instate him.

Well found sir, how do you find years old stuff on here?
I would still say there was not a groundswell of criticism towards Karius at the time. He was a major part of our 17/18 campaign which saw us make
top four and a CL final, a very good season for us back then. He played in half our league games and 13 times in Europe.
I think there was (maybe still is) a good young keeper there, but what happened in Kiev totally crushed him.

In summary, we'll agree to disagree <laugh> <ok>

My point was merely that it is wrong to say that criticism of the guy is based solely on the CL final. I was never convinced by him. There was a litany of small errors (remember the goal kick that went out for a corner?) that built up to a bigger, worrying picture.
He was dropped because of them. When he was brought back, he had an improved spell - by which I mean a period with no obvious cock-ups. Sadly, he was saving them for when it mattered.

For £4m, Karius wasn’t that bad. He did play a part in us getting to the CL final but unfortunately he wasn’t good enough.

We will end up making a profit on him so it’s not the worst transfer we’ve ever done.

I agree with this. Whenever I saw his name on the team sheet I was filled with dread and wished for Mignolet! Imagine that <laugh>

you were by no means alone there were quite a few of us.

the thing was we all accepted Klopp wanted him to be no1 and that he was the only one who mattered .

    Yes.
My reply was to organic who said that the sole reason for criticism of Karius stemmed from his disastrous CL final, and this is quite wrong. Many of us were concerned about him from the start.
That was the only point I was making. I doubt any of us are shallow enough to condemn a player on the basis of one game - the unease had been building over a long time, and that game was the cherry on the top.
