Not sure what you mean? I think we all thought we were progressing initially so it’s plausible mate.

Totally agree with the OP.. The negativity is like a self fulfilling prophecy and in my opinion has been one of the main reasons for our downfall in recent years.. The new manager is getting stick already and he has hardly had time to unpack..

From the outside looking in and all banter aside, Sunderland fans have been fantastic.

How is it possible to put on a optimistic face when the thing you love is being torn piece by piece?

We, imho, have become what we call them up the road of being, deluded fans. We thought that we had a right to be a top flight team, cos we have fantastic fans and stadium, and when relegated, we thought that, as in most other times in the last thirty years, we’d be the biggest club in the second division (championship to you youngsters), and probably walk it. When the unthinkable happened we’d absolutely piss the third division, because we’re the biggest, best resourced, best supported team in there. We’re in a right two n eight. We’ve got no money, we’ve got a manager who is being given no time, we’ve got small time owners, and worse than that we’ve got fans who are, unlike the last time we were in the third division, driven by social media, where a rumour becomes fact instantly. Fans who see football live virtually every day of the week, with footballers who are simply world class performing brilliantly in fantastic teams every time, and we want that to be us.

I support Sunderland cos I was bitten by the bug in the late sixties, I’ve seen some ****e, and I’m honestly apathetic atm. I’m not bothered about going on Saturday, I’ll go for social reasons more than anything else, but the fare I’m being served up is awful, not entertaining and tbh boring. I’m sorry to say that the only way to get the fans back onside is to be successful, and to me, with the current owners, and without many many millions this is going to be a long road that needs patience. Given the instant demands of today’s society, patience isn’t a quality that the majority of our fans have these days, hence the negativity.

Short is definitely responsible, he put his faith in a set of advisors and managers who simply weren’t up to it, Hutchinson, Byrne etc, and we're now left with a club that has to borrow money to fix the roof and the lifts. I think that this negativity is going to go on for a while yet.

I just refuse to be part of the negativity. that's my way of dealing with it. I have a bit moan and leave it at that but when it comes to match days I am still as optimistic as ever.

When we lose I tend to ignore the SMB threads, for a day or so. To try and calm the fatalists is like putting one hand up to halt a herd of stampeding buffalo.

Take a few peoples points regarding the atmosphere and lack of vocal noise... sadly you often feel like you are some sort of mentalist for even to attempt to sing or chant.... very few seem confident to have a sing song on their own and at times you are told to shut up and watch the game

Dead wood cleared ? Our recent performances indicate we still have a problem of Amazon Forest proportions, we certainly have a major transfer window approaching and we need to ensure we are in the starting blocks January 1st with a much improved recruitment prepared .

All this conspiracy ****e yet it's clear as owt that one reason why we didn't go up last season and struggling this season is due to a lack of a regular goalscorer, it's as simple as that! Scroll to end of post for short version.

If we had kept Maja and he kept knocking the odd goal in then we'd have been fine last season and so goes for this season. However Grigg (and Wyke) have added very little to the games to get summit out of them. Grigg for example with his single goal this season in 15 appearances was the 4th in a 5-0 win against Tranmere. His best goal contribution last season to getting a win was a 71st minute winner against Walsall but that's it for a game winning goal. He also scored in the 45th minutes in a 3-0 win away to Acc Stanley and the 5-4 defeat against Coventry so not really helping towards points, only GD. The other was a penna against Gillingham that gave us the lead so handed to him on a plate to finish and McGeady got the next goal to kill the game.

Yet you had the likes of Charlton, Luton, Doncaster with strikers with over 20 goals from the season. Most would have expected somewhere near 10 from Grigg but he got just 3 in open play and 1 penna!

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lea...n_id/2018/altersklasse/alle/detailpos//plus/1

Maja would have probably got another 10 in his remaining 19 games to end up with 25 goals for the season. So that 6 extra goals could have possibly gained more points and been scored in games that got points like he had before but who knows. The **** thing is, the same is happening this season as our so called main strikers have 2 goals between them in 26 appearances. McNulty has 2 at least and I'm hoping he can get fit an knock a few in.

You take any regular goalscoring player away from any team and they'd struggle. Take Aguero from Man City, Salah from Liverpool, Kane from Spurs and they wouldn't be where they were for sure. We lost Maja last season who already had 15 league goals in 24 appearances after we'd played 27 games but we got all of 4 goals in return from Grigg in the 18 games he was here!

If it's true SD wanted Grigg so aye he's partially to blame for that but I bet very few felt Grigg would fail here. Given his past we would have expected at least 1 goal in 3 apps if not more but overall he's getting 1 in 5 which is basically 9 goals over a season. the huge concern is that this season it's 1 single goal in 15 appearances now! If he'd been on fire and got nearer 10 last season we'd have got promoted with those extra goal. Or if he and Wyke had over 10 goals between them than both so far this season we'd be nearer the top but as you see Maguire is our top scorer with 5 but look at other teams who are above us goalscorers.

    https://www.worldfootball.net/goalgetter/eng-league-one-2019-2020/

Short version, we're missing regular goalscoring forwards who get the extra points a successful team needs!

Crowds never have and never will wina football match. We have progressively got worse and worse players and have a **** team inthe third division which is where the likes of Hartlepool and Darlington were naturally. Our crowds are the biggest this division has seen since before WW2, how any rational person can blame Sunderland fans for any decisions made by the likes of Ellis Short, Margaret Byrne, Roberto Di Fanti, Martin Bain, David Moyes, Simon Grayson, Chris Coleman, Stewart Donald, Jack Ross, Richard Hill, Tony Coton and Phil Parkinson is beyond me.

They can certainly make a massive difference in games and will undoubtedly influence potential signings who will hear about the levels of negativity and abuse and give us a wide birth, so I have to disagree with that statement..
