Thierry Henry never scored that many in the first few seasons if I remember correctly, yet he is known for his goal-scoring record in the Premier League.

And today Andy looked fitter than previous, had he the right service he could have actually had a goal in my opinion. The whole team was poor, but to single out one player who is continously improving, is unfair.
Unfortunately Henry had blistering pace to get him out of trouble.Something Carroll does not have.

^^ Voronin also springs to mind. Let's hope he never gets that bad...

Voronin was not in the same mold as either Toshack or Carroll. However, our last player of the same standard as Voronin we managed to sell!

sorry Jatt, consistently improving? He went from scoring goals in pre-season, to not scoring any in the prem and getting the one goal in the Carling cup. I need more from him. The adjustment I feel shouldn't be this hard, it is probably a lot in his head, but he needs to snap out of it. At the moment, we need him to start getting the goals, if not he will find himself on the bench and that 35 million flop tag will be coming in faster and that will get him off his game even more.

As a team we were shocking, but Carroll has been shocking this season.

You must be watching a different game to me.

I haven't seen any kind of improvement at all, he was better towards the end of last season when he still getting match fit. He simply slows our style of play down and we need to be playing Suarez with Kuyt or Bellamy, or even all three of them. Carroll needs to improve rapidly as we don't have time to keep giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I said earlier give him 5 games on the trot to prove himself, if he can't improve considerably bench him or stick him in the reserves for a bit.

This great Carroll debate reminds me of the same debate when we bought Toshack. He came to us as the great rampaging CF who would dominate in the air, hold play up and score lots of goals - he didn't! In his first season he was at least a yard to slow, his first touch was poor and his passing useless. Any of that sound familiar?

He then went on to form a formidible partnership with Keegan. The same could happen between Carroll and Suarez but it needs time and patience.

I always heard that Toshack settled in reasonably well from the start, but yeah the partnership with Keegan took a while to blossom. I do know in Toshack's 2nd game for us we were 2-0 down and he inspired us to a 3-2 win, scoring the vita equalising 2nd goal against an Everton team that were top of the league.

This Carroll debate will continue for years or as long as he is here. I feel like I will be in the half that does not rate him but will still want him to do, others will probably be more positive and reminds us to be patient and wait. Unfortunately we can't wait to long as if we miss out on Champs league it will hinder our chances of getting those top players we want to come in, and if they do come it will probably be due to big wages or they want to play for Liverpool.

Kuyt
Bellamy Suarez Downing ( can switch downing and bellamy if you want the service instead of cutting in)

With Gerrard and Lucas behind... sounds good to me Bluff <ok>

You can easily put Gerrard in the hole and move suarez, keep Gerrard behind and maybe give Downing a little thinking with maxi out there or in the hole. Also if you feel these 4 are very attacking, the add Spearing and Lucas behind, loads of energy, tracking, and better marking for sure.

That is what I would put out against Wolves
Kuyt
Downing Suarez Bellamy
Spearing Lucas ( could have Gerrard)
Enrique, Coates, Carra, Kelly

My team exactly. I would play Gerrard instead of Spearing though, purely because he can spread long balls forward to split defenses. With Spearing we may become too defensive and our forwards may become slightly isolated. Basically play Gerrard in Adam's role.

Gerrard's passing (long) is a bit like Adam's it can be sporadic, we were commenting on this last year when he would try the hollywood/academy balls and it would miss. I know we say Spearing might be too defensive but we know that him and Lucas will sniff out the opposition at any and every chance and put that pressure on the opposing team to cough the ball up. Plus a little extra cover for our defense in this moment with injuries and suspensions, new player coming into the fold ( coates) might not be too bad. We have 4 very aggressive attacking players in Kuyt, Downing, Suarez, and Bellamy, with Lucas and Spearing I feel we could go high pressure from the start and everyone would be on the same page.

Either way that is what I would go with and again Gerrard in there only makes the team better.

Just reading your comment's lads, can't believe most of you are writing him off already. When he get's that confidence back he'll look every bit the 35m player you bought it's only a matter of time. He was absolutely unplayable at times for us last season. He'll start banging them in soon.

I don't think anyone argues he doesn't have the potential - it's mainly that he doesn't fit in with our style of play that I have a problem with.

Kenny should of thought of that before he spent £35 million....

Yes, I'm sure with the 30 seconds he had to make a purchase he studied every one of Carroll's goals and every minute of his play.

He got £50m for Torres, and bought Carroll and Suarez, even despite Carroll's lack of goals it's a brilliant deal.

Sorry Ze Liverbird what do you mean by 'Yes, I'm sure with the 30 seconds he had to make a purchase he studied every one of Carroll's goals and every minute of his play'?

Just interested.

Well, we received £50m for Torres within about an hour of the deadline day closing.

Within that time period we had to have someone come to Liverpool, complete the medical and sign the documents within the hour. Considering that means anywhere out of the UK is out of the equation, and you'd be pushing it with a plane from the south then it really only leaves the north.

So, that left very little time to actually identify a suitable target (who was actually one of the biggest prospects in football at the time, reportedly a lot of people were interested) and get him down here. Suarez was a player from Ajax, so there was no guarantee we even knew what we were getting; do you think we would have spent all of the Torres money to get him just so we had an actual striker for the second half of the season?

I think a small part of Carroll appearing to be MIA is Suarez' greedyness. Suarez is demanding to take all free kicks and is throwing Ronaldo-esque paddys when he's not passed the ball. I know Carroll wouldnt take the free kicks but he's even nicked in to get that disallowed goal at the weekend.
Ideally i would like Luis to be a bit more team minded.
We've all played with those players in our time havent we, it can be frustrating to say the least.
