To me The Beatles had moments, Blackbird being one for me but I can't say I'm a huge fan. Listen to the breakbeat at the end of Strawberry Fields to understand how far ahead of their time they were. For their time and place there's no doubting their importance.

Tel - I'm certainly not young, far from it and I could never stand them, same repetitive shhite, over and over again, I truly hated their music. So much so I refused to ever play a piece that belonged to them - that is quite a challenge in music, because the Beatles are seen as a building block of your education. That's how inbred they are into the music industry. I litterally refused to have anything to do with their music. Manufactored shhite sold and cloned for the masses.
I like that attitude, why just go along with it? I'm like that with Weller and the Jam and had an interesting conversation on here. I got one song from it English Rose but I now ****ing love that track. The rest of it is ****ing boring though, that hasn't changed.

Anyway, the Beatles and the Stones were pretty much the cornerstone for that whole Indie scene and bands like the Smiths and Stone Roses. I've always found the Beatles music boring though. The Rolling Stones made exciting music, but no doubt they both totally shaped the music that followed.

Best music to come from those roots in the indie scene for me though were bands like The Fall and The House of Love.
