Car drivers take retribution on road squirrels.

Why is it that there are more and more restrictions on road users to protect cyclists yet cyclists do not need to take basic steps to protect themselves? Why should they not have to have (working) front and rear lights, helmets and high viz jackets?

I do not drive but it amazes me how so many cyclists do not adhere to the rules of the road.
