Typical Labour want to amend the bill by adding 16 year olds and EU nationals. Just another trick to stop Brexit. Next they will want to dig up dead Labour voters and count them as well .
.I believe it has to go through a committee first. However once again they are tying the PMs hands to make it unfair. Why should someone from the EU be able to vote here? Why should someone from say Poland make a decision about our future? Sorry not on. It’s just an attempt to get more Remain votes. It ain’t happening. The government tried to get this through without allowing amendments, but they lost a vote on that. Now they are saying that they will pull the bill if these amendments are passed and the election won't take place. And your lot keep banging on about democracy.
I won’t but Brexit will happen and the Tories will win the next election.Don't count your chickens.
What does Remain mean. Let’s have a long drawn out debate about what sort of EU would make a significant majority of the British people happy. Not.
If you're not prepared to give Poles or Rumanians the right to vote after a certain number of years residence then you shouldn't take taxes from them - 'no taxation without representation' and all that.I believe it has to go through a committee first. Now I know you are being silly because anyone can see the antics in the house over the last 3 years has been anything but democratic. and when you hear Blackford admitting today that they have deliberately frustrated Brexit. As I said the people remember.
If you are not a British citizen you should not have the right to vote. It doesn’t happen in the EU. It doesn’t happen in Germany so it doesn’t happen here. It’s just a Remain ploy to try and get more votes. The EU is not something alien Uber

This may or may not be a ploy Ellers, but the possession of voting rights in the country where you live and pay your taxes is an important part of the integration process. The EU rules on this allow all EU nationals in other EU countries the right to vote in European and local elections - that is the minimum requirement, but there are many EU countries which go further than that and allow full voting rights in such circumstances. I would agree if you said that it should be subject to a language test - nobody can vote without knowing the language. The other possibility is to simplify the naturalization process in the UK - it is too expensive there, and involves taking an oath to the Monarchy (which many British couldn't do). The administration costs for naturalization in the UK. are well over a thousand pounds - 5 times more expensive than in Germany. If you are not a British citizen you should not have the right to vote. So just answer my question.... can British nationals working in German (not citizens), vote in the German election? This may or may not be a ploy Ellers, but the possession of voting rights in the country where you live and pay your taxes is an important part of the integration process. Bumped into Dominic Cummings.
Me: Ready for the campaign Mr Cummings?
DC: We’re not going to have one.
Me: Really?
DC: They’ll vote for EU citizens and we’ll have to pull it.[HASHTAG]#Brexit[/HASHTAG] | GE19
If this really did happen, it would kind of spike Tory guns re Labour not wanting an election wouldn't it?
Just to clarify that Germany has 4 levels of elections. For the Bundestag (National), for the state parliament (eg. Bavaria), European elections, and local elections. British nationals can vote in local and European elections - I vote in all because I have German nationality as well. 16-17 year olds are allowed to vote in some state elections (the individual states decide this) and in local elections - not sure about the Euros. It is being debated as to whether they can vote in national ones. Countries which include voting rights for all elections include Portugal, Sweden, Italy and a couple of others which I can't remember. Belgium also has more or less uniform voting because it has the highest rate of naturalization coupled with compulsory voting (which I would like to see in the UK).So just answer my question.... can British nationals working in German (not citizens), vote in the German election?
oh and do they allow 16-17 year olds to vote?
of course they will pull it if it gives another party an advantage. Same with the losers vote. They don't want a simple leave v remain (which is fair) they want to split the leave vote.
re the amendments. apparently its not down to Bercow but his assistant and he is a Tory wanting to be speaker. I think I heard that right. If that is the case the amendments won't happen as he will want Tory votes for the speaker election.
