If there is a December election, then I just hope the outcome is the same as in the spring of 1974 with Johnson ending up with egg all over his fat ugly face. Of course I would want a Labour majority, no matter how big or small. Then 18 months down the line, call another election, and get a big Labour majority as in 1966!!!

Boris's handlers are counting on running a Get Brexit Done campaign, and have also taken into account that a winter election will be low turnout, which traditionally is bad for Labour. I can see a few flaws in that strategy straight away; first of all people are bored of Brexit and may be susceptible to a Labour campaign focusing on austerity, housing, the NHS, workers rights etc. Furthermore, the areas with traditionally low turnout in a GE are often the Leave voting areas.

Although things do look grim I will admit there are several factors for potential cheer in the upcoming election.

    1. The SNP on current polling have been at 50%+. On this kind of figure only one constituency, Edinbugh South, can re regarded as safe. Of the remainder 14 are Tory held.

    2. 74 of the top 100 Lib Dem target seats are Tory held. We can reasonably expect many of these where Remain outpolled leave at the referendum to be won.

    3. Tory defectors such as Hammond are making noises about standing as Independents. Even if they didn't win this could seriously detract from the Tory vote.

    4. The DUP are so up the arse about Pfeffel selling them down the river that he cannot rely on their support any longer.

Overall they will need to win 40+ Labour seats to stand still. We don't know yet what effect Farage will have in Labour held seats that voted Leave. These will need to be his targets or he is finished as any kind of political force.

Finally, after nearly 3 and a half years, a Labour MP is finally going public about the greatest electoral fraud ever committed in this country. Better late than never, David, but surely this should have been one of the main planks in the People’s Vote campaign?

The court found them guilty Beddy. Guilty. You had better tell the people you talk to they got it wrong.

The only reason the referendum wasn’t declared null and void was because it was an advisory referendum.

The punishment? A paltry £60,000 fine.

    No!! :emoticon-0121-angry

Madness ..... sleepwalking straight into the Tory trap ...... before any GE there should be a People’s Vote on ?Brexit, then we can kick those bastards out after Brexit is stopped. Otherwise, there’ll be a hung parliament, Farage and his nasty lot will get some seats and potentially hold some level of power .....
I don’t believe it ..... now looking even more seriously at moving abroad ..... wtf is the matter with this country? :emoticon-0106-cryin:emoticon-0106-cryin

Having a referendum before an election wasnt in any way feasible. It was a choice between passing brexit with maybe some minor amendments or an election.

Imo an election is our best chance even if it's a slim one.

We NEED to ensure lib dems and labour have a good arrangement though.

If the parties won’t be grown up about coming to arrangements, the voters will have to do it themselves.
Maybe social media will organise something?
Labour missed out on Southampton Itchen by 31 votes, last time, with the Lib Dems 20,000 votes behind.
The Lib Dem’s in this ward need to pile onto the Labour candidate and wipe out at least 1 Tory MP.

Agreed, that's my ward. A far right MP where there were more votes for parties to the left.

Unfortunately I cant get my mum to vote for Corbyn in this one even with how much she hates Boris. Didn't get an answer to how she would vote if lib dems and green didn't stand. (She voted labour in the last one).

I'm hoping there are enough who would switch though.

It's imperative that Labour and Lib Dem voters switch to whatever party stands the better chance. Green candidates should withdraw apart from Caroline Lucas. No Green voter in their right mind would vote Tory.

The NHS ownership will remain as it is now, that is by the taxpayers of the United Kingdom. I don’t know of any Tory activist who would sanction otherwise. That we all might need to pay more through the NI payments to facilitate the growing list of fantastic treatments becoming available to those in desperate need, may have to happen but I would never vote for the Party again if the options outlined in your post become reality. We may vote differently but on this we are on the same page, I’m sure.

You know as well as I do that sooner or later, your party intends to seek a trade agreement with the USA. Part of the price for that will be greater access to the NHS by private US healthcare companies, and higher prices paid for US drugs by the NHS. The intention is to render the NHS as a publicly funded, free at the point of need service, unsustainable. Whether you or any other Tory activist signs up for it is irrelevant, your party has been taken over by the far right, and they’ll do just what they want.

Yeah, while I don't think the Tories want to do this. We just don't have as much power outside the EU to pick and choose our trade deals.

We need a trade deal with the US and in order to achieve this the US will be able to demand concessions, just like the EU has in our attempts to trade with them.
We are more similar to the EU though, With the US it's a far greater compromise on our standards.
