Hi all,

Need some help. In the next week, some of my family and I will be going for lunch somewhere in the city centre. It’s become a bit of annual thing during this half term. We normally take turns choosing where to go.

Last year we ate in Empress and it was awful (not my choice).

Where’s good to go for lunch?

No problem Des. Here's my plan. Drop the missus and kids off at Maccy D's and tell them they can have whatever they want.

Then just as they look all rosy cheeks, tell them 'oh ner, I've left me wallet on the dashboard, I'll be back in half an hour, heres some vouchers, get the milkshakes in.

Then off you go to Minerva for the steak pie and mash, a couple of pints and you'll be back in time to pay for their happy meals, proclaiming 'sorry love, I'm such a wally' You then explain how you fended off three rough looking ruffians and offer them another strawberry milkshake.

You're a hero Dez. The missus and kids will be gushing with love and admiration.

No need fella, no need...

What type of thing do you fancy?
Anyone with specific requirements?
 
Depends how close to the centre you mean I guess

Very centrally I think Leonardos on corner of Princes Dock St and Posterngate is good. Heard an oldish couple in there recently raving about the porterhouse steak.

I quite like Head of Steam in Trinity Sq now the new menu is in (went a bit **** at first when Kerbedge left I thought) but that’s maybe a bit more of a burger and pizza Place.

cant go wrong with Minerva of course if you’re not worried about very central, or Lion & Key either of course

I do like Minerva but it’s a bit out the way I suppose. Could always piggyback people there

Or Bob Carvers of course.

thinking about it I haven’t actually eaten in Leonardos for a while (was only boozing while people on next table were telling staff it was the best porterhouse they’d ever had, although they were southerners) but just had a nosey at Tripadvisor and it gets good reviews on there too

Yeah if ‘city centre’ includes Lion & Key that would be my choice

If walking there is an issue for the older ones then I’d park in the car park opposite the Premier Inn and just walk over the swing bridge to Lion & Key

Agree with Leonardo's - their fish wraps are really good.

The Old House is another good shout. Crazy to think, but they somehow manage to make something as simple as bangers and mash taste like pure luxury.

If you can be bothered to cross the A63, Nibble is spot on for lunch (near C4DI).
