Iam on another forum and the chat has turned into "what was your first game" Well? Mine was 1980 and I was there when John Hawley scored the screamer past the great Pat Jennings. (top right hand corner) from at least 50yrds out :D

86 vs Newport County at Roker in the FA Cup. George Burley made his debut for us apparently, and someone else who i've forgot.

Sunderland 0 Norwich 1 - 1968 FA Cup replay and Neil Martins goal at the Roker end was never offside (well not from where I was standing in the Fulwell End!)

Terrible as it is, my first game was the play off 2nd leg vs. Gillingham.

All I can remember is the scum in the corner of the clockstand paddocks, shouting on Gillingham.

    Ive hated them ever since!!!

The first time I went to Roker Park was in 1958 but the first "memory" I have is of Sunderland vs Preston Easter 1964 4-0 win and I remember a backheader by Charlie Hurley to Jimmy Montgomery when everyone (except Monty, so the two of them claim) was expecting him to clear upfield.

january 1966, sunderland 2 - 0 newcastle. 9 year old and my uncle took me, i had been taken to a newcastle match earlier that season by my dad (think it was man utd) and he was non too pleased at my uncle ted taking me to a derby with a red and white scarf on, but it was love at first sight, there was something different to the mags crowd, friendlier i think.

Home game against Oxford United in 1974, 1-0, with Ian Porterfield scoring the winner in the last minute.

A 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. I can't even find it in the record books. It's been downhill ever since this event became emblazoned on my now not so clear memory. It would be about 1968 or 1969. Maybe some lad with an anorak can help to date it.

Not nearly as impressive, but my first ever game of live football was away to Portsmouth in 2008. I can't recall the score, but I think we lost. My second game (my first home one) was last season, when we beat Arsenal 1-0. My third match will come this weekend, and I can't wait!

Where were you. I can't think that it was Boxing Day but could be wrong. Was it a 0-0. I don't suppose there were many other 0-0 draws around that time with the Owls. Thanks mate. I guess it must have been that one. Appreciate it!

Yep, 0 - 0. Funnily enough I was at the away match in October which was 1 - 1, and two weeks after that the away match at West Ham which we lost 8 - 0, and that was my Birthday present!!

1st home game of the 76/77 season versus Arsenal. Score was 2-2 and it was a nice sunny warm day and Macdonald made his debut for Arsenal that day after moving from the skunks. Monty was in goal........

My first game was when my dad took me to Roker Park in 1970, home to QPR. I remember it was winter because it was chuffing freezing! Get this though......I was in with the QPR fans because my dad was a fan!!!!!!! I kept that one quiet when i went to school the following Monday! Can't remember the score, but i know we won, because the old man wasn't very happy.:)
