Æthelred@thelred1 5h5 hours ago More You cannot hold an election in December - that's just crazy. Then it's the January sales and after that it's Easter and before you know it everyone's away for summer. Best not bother with voting we should outsource the running of our country to an unelected bureaucracy- Any ideas?
When Ethel slips on the ice and breaks her hip and the village halls are all double booked for Snow White you’ll be sorry.
I bet those ASDA workers are saying... ‘Thank gosh we are in the EU, they really do protect our rights’
I saw him on TV last night and he was almost bearable. He obviously saves his true ****ishness for social media like a proper keyboard warrior. Anyway, the real cowards are Cummings and Johnson, refusing to bring their 'great' deal back for proper scrutiny and process. 'Get Brexit Done', then we'll have an election.
What’s the point? This Parliament is broken. Let’s have a GE in which the Brexit position is pretty clear across the main protagonists (apart from Labour) and then see where we are. You might get your Remain.
Or just have a referendum rather than an election which should be fought on all sorts of topics rather than an old etonian pretending it’s “da peeple v parlourmunt”. Frankly if working class people are thick enough to vote for this Tory regime then we deserve whatever we get.
Prediction time, Sloughie... If we go your way, presumably you think the electorate will vote Remain in another Referendum, then Labour in a GE? But if we just go GE, presumably you think the Tories would win then deliver a Brexit? Is that your prediction?
I think the Tories will win but with a hung parliament again. I think Remain would narrowly win a referendum. Even if they sneak a small majority including the odd Farage bod winning a seat in ****ville and Brexitmouth it doesn’t necessarily give them the numbers but more important than any of this is what the Tories could do if given another five years to inflict themselves on every aspect of our lives.
But if the Blues would win an immediate GE, backed by Labour ‘traitors’ wanting Brexit done, why would Remain win a second Referendum? I don’t buy the argument about the GE constituency FPTP system versus a Referendum majority.
You probably should buy it because it makes perfect sense. You can’t compare a General selection with the anti-Corbyn PR machines whirring up again from 2017 with a straight in/out referendum with no need for tactical voting or not giving a **** because the red or blue guy has won in your area since forever.
You’ve really got to curb that hatred of the Blues, Sloughie. The Left has a real problem with ‘knowing’ they’re right and assuming anybody with a contrary opinion is nasty, corrupt and wrong. The right path always lies somewhere between the two perspectives of left & right, and authoritarian & libertarian. I just happen to draw the first line closer to the right than you... in fact, I doubt your line even leaves the silo of the Left. Shame, as there are good people on both sides.
I’ve no issue with people having contrary views though it helps when they can be backed up with some sort of logic. I’d just like it to be a level playing field in the media rather than this Johnson **** show being given a free pass while Corbyn will be vilified if he doesn’t use a bag for life.
