I'd have Champions Day on King George day at Ascot. Said that at the time and I still think it would fit neatly into the racing calendar. You could bill it as the classic generation vs. the older lot (as per the King George) to find the summer champion. Could even call it Summer Champions Day if necessary.

Small problems: the following week at Goodwood there is the Sussex Stakes, a couple of weeks before at Sandown there is the Eclipse and in between at Newmarket is the July Cup.

Also, in order to move pattern races around, we have to agree with the European Pattern Committee, whose members are the other European racing nations. I suspect this is why a September date was not attempted because the Champion Stakes would be very close to the Irish version. The irony being that now the Irish have created a Champions’ Weekend in the slot that we should have had! The French built Arc Sunday without having to move anything around but just elevate the existing races to Group 1 status.

To be honest Ron if we leave without a deal we all won't be able to afford to go racing anyway as we 'll all be sooooo much poorer allegedly and we probably won't have the energy to go as we will be all starving hungry due to mass food shortages..

As the European Pattern Committee is nothing to do with the EU (just like the Eurovision Song Contest) it will continue. Whether our horses are able to travel to/from Ireland or mainland Europe is another matter. Without any agreement, theoretically horses will become subject to quarantine restrictions.

We won’t be starving, we will have all those horses to eat. There will be no glue shortage either. No more swerving to avoid rabbits in the middle of the night. There will be no stray dogs either – already got the Korean cookbook: 100 ways to wok your dog.
