I cannot believe that anybody who watched that fight can justify the outcome. Not only was it and incredibly bad m9oment for boxing it was insanely dangerous. Mayweather is undoubtedly a huge talent but his career is marred by bad judging and some very suspicious refereeing, the Hatton fight springs to mind. Last night the rules state that if the ref has not said box the fighters cannot throw punches, the result is a point deduction or if severe enough a disqualification. Thats the rules guys. The ref had not said box and Ortiz being the kind of fighter he is, actually turned to the ref after the first punch landed to see what was going on. The fact of the matter remains that the title should be stripped, the match should be a no contest and everyone should stop harping on about that headbutt.
Nowhere in the boxing statute books does it say if you are the victim of foul play you get a Joker that allows you to even things up a bit. The ref should never be allowed to oversee a bout again. especially a Mayweather bout. I would say the whole thing smacks of Superfight fever and the fear of losing future bouts with Kahn and perhaps Pac. I never really liked Mayweather purely because as a man he is so repugnant and he went a long way to proving me right last night.
A disgrace to the sport and to the best weight class within it.
