Is anyone using the Linux OS on their PC? I've only ever used Windows since '95 and since Windows 7 support finishes early next year I thought I'd give Linux/Ubuntu a go - at the moment I'm booting it from a flash drive and before I go the whole hog and fully install it I thought I'd ask anyone using it for their thoughts on it? The few times I've used it I've found it really quick loading and pretty simple to use - I certainly prefer it the Windows 10 on my laptop.
I use it at home. It's a significant upgrade on Windows performance wise but not ideal if you want to run certain Windows specific software or games, which I don't. I assume you're using Mint, which is the most polished and used distro out there.
I wasn't using Mint but, after a quick Google recce I think I may opt for it ahead of Ubuntu - I only chose Ubuntu as an old workmate told me it was easy to 'test use' from a flash drive; same as you I'm not a gamer so Mint certainly looks ideal. Thanks for the info
Been using Mint for three weeks now, I really like it - my system boots up and powers down in half the time it did using Windows, it seems easier on the hardware too. I dropped one minor bollock installing though, I expected Linux to only overwrite my boot drive, it didn't - it wiped and then overwrote my boot drive and the storage drive where I had 350gb of media files stored; they were all backed up externally so they weren't lost. Thanks again for putting me onto Mint - for anyone thinking of ditching Windows? Installing is a piece of piss and Mint really is mint!
