Trent swept around the back well but looked very nervous and kept giving possession away.

The whole team was restrained, I dont think I saw him over lap with salah once. It wasnt his greatest performance but I do think nerves played a part in the whole team

Nor did Robbo; Klopp obviously told them to keep it tight, hence the midfield trio picked too [HASHTAG]#workhorses[/HASHTAG]

Anybody who watched last seasons game should not be surprised at this result. Napoli are very tricky opponents, especially at their place. Both teams are essentially the same and the coaches are both savvy. On another day, this could have been a result reversal or 3-3.
Well said.

The problem is it stymied our entire game, if wed approached that game like any other we could have taken Napoli to bits but instead we where very solid which translated to a nervy performance.

To be fair weve seen it in important games before, klopp maybe goes to solid and that impacts on the players mentally.

Too tentative. We tried to contain them and it's just not our game.
I thought Napoli looked tired with about 20 minutes to go, and we could have nicked it. Sadly, a soft penalty ruined that.
We weren't as bad as last year though, and the scoreline isn't a true reflection of the game overall.

Oh well, I hate to lose - but it's not the end of the world.

Sums it up perfectly for me....onwards and upwards <ok>

Was frustrating. An off day....win on Sunday and all will be forgotten. I am concerned with our lack of depth though....this result makes it less likely that we can rest players later in the group stages if we really need the points.....we have 6 players who can’t be rested properly: front 3, full backs and VvD. It’s going to derail us later in the season.

That's the point entirely.

My ratings:

Adrian: 8 Best game for us so far

Trent : 5 Some defensive cover, wanted all day on the ball though.

Robbo: 4 Never a pen, but dreadful anyway.

VVD: 6 Fine - until that ****-up at the end.

Matip: 7 Competent.

Hendo; 7 Thought he was our best player in the first half.

Fab: 7 Rarely remember him wasting a ball.

Milner: 5.5 Tried, but lack of quality in that pass when through was telling.

Mo: 6 Had the beating of everyone, including Koulabaly - so he kept on trying to do that even when he didn't have to.

Bobby: 5.5 Dire in that first half. Improved in the second, but was still taking a needless extra touch when he didn't need to.

Mane: 5.5: See Mo. Woeful pass was more like his second season with us than the last one.

Subs:

Windy: 5 Didn't see him do a thing, truth be told.

Shaqiri: 5 Did he actually get on?

Team: 5 Did the hard bit, and somehow failed to in the last 20 minutes to get a result when Napoli looked dead on their feet.

jurgen 6: It's a luxury to play Hendo and Milner together, but that aside, there was nothing much wrong with the team he picked - just the way they played.

Anyways, not the end of the world. Napoli away was always gonna be difficult and we did more than enough to win. A night when everything went against us.

We should still be beating Genk and Salzburg, and progressing nicely into next stage. <ok>
