This may well have been done to death here, but people change and so do their opinions over time. I thought I'd freshen things up (we aren't playing for a while now) I compiled my favourite XI on a whim last night. I've only been watching Saints play post 2000 so forgive me if I miss out anyone's favourites from before that time.

What I had written down.

Pahars, Le Tissier
Bale Marsden Schneiderlin Guly
Shaw Svensson Fonte Dodd
Niemi

Bench (only 5 to be old school): Jones, Lundekvam, Lambert, Telfer, Sharp.

I struggled with the RM slot, it's meant to be old school 4-4-2 and I don't like the feel of Lallana or Mané being in there instead of Guly (who thrived there for us in the Championship in a similar system).

The problem with this kind of thing is of course that when you’ve been watching Saints as long as me there’s just too many to choose from!

I’m going to have to go for a 4-3-3, but 12-12-12 still wouldn’t be enough!

And young Gareth should consider himself very lucky to stay in that 11.
And also Guly, as I couldn't remember someone who'd fit that team as well as him.
Had Shearer given us two more years, I reckon he might have broken in.
I don't think I've taken this as serious as I should have.
