About time Root took this responsibility. I know he has a better record at four but he needs to step up and grab it by the balls, instead of shying away from it.
End of the day its about winning series not batting averages If we win the ashes, Root performs average yet Smith carries his form on To me that makes Root better. Its about when you get your runs not what your average is Ben Stokes innings of 135* not out isnt rememberable on paper. Players have scored much more runs then that. Its the importance of the runs that count so judge Root at the end of the series
I'm not so sure on Root. Is it a case of his form affecting his performances like with Vaughan and quite a few others or is it simply he's not as good as we all thought? His conversion rate of 50s to 100 is really quite poor and at the moment he looks miles away from the likes of Smith and Kohli. The Aussies I hear all say you put your best batsmen in his best position and let him get on with it - they think we're making a mistake putting him at 3. He did very well in the last test though and ironically isn't get credit. He needs a ton badly.
Ah right, correct. I guess the top four has been so ****e I've not really noticed in which slot he failed he's been gone so quickly. (Bar last test 2nd innings, when he contributed) He definitely scores better at four but the fact is, we need a number three, so he should valiantly stick at it, as he clearly has all series.
I would have dropped Woakes for Curran but the reasoning behind it is Overton’s height and Old Trafford is a bouncy pitch
He has been out twice to Broad like that now. Not sure whether to leave or play and ball ends up clipping the bat while going through
