i agree with gunnersurprise with the Carrol point! Doesn't have any class to warrant half of the fee he went for! I would personally prefer to have a full fit torres in my team over a full fit RVP! I think Torres will soon be back to his scoring ways!!

Van Persie's record isn't even that impressive regardless of time spent on the treatment table. 160 games, 67 goals. That's just over 1 in 3. And he's not particularly creative unlike someone like Rooney, so I don't see the excuse for his poor goalscoring record.

Its a lie. That never happened. Why would we agree to spending £35m on someone if we could get them for £15m. Comolli, John Henry and Dalglish aren't that stupid.

Torres also did it in big games against Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. When was the last time Van Persie played well in a big game?

Also RVP had plenty of time(injury's or not)to be miles ahead of Torres in goals scored in the prem,he joined Arsenal 3yrs before Torres joined us.

And got to play with the likes of Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Fabregas, Nasri and Arshavin. Did Torres ever get the benefit of playing with such a group of creative players? I would argue that he didn't, Gerrard and Alonso apart he's had to play with lesser calibre of players. The likes of Benayoun, Riera, Kuyt, Riise and Babel are decent players on their day, but hardly on the same level as the players Van Persie got to play with.

It may well be, but facing the last half of season without your star centre forward would have infalted the price of a replacement, especially at 11pm on deadline day.
I don't know how legitimate the story is but the price of Carrol was definitely inflated because of Chelseas insane valuation of Torres

We were walking about Carroll u muppet! read the thread! As for Torres he's finished and has been for some time. Does not have the ability skill or craft to play at the highest level without his pace or a team that plays everything through him.

Are you stupid, or do you just not watch football? he just played well on Tuesday and scored and a lovely goal on his weaker right foot away against the German champions.
Maybe the big games don't include Europe now since your not in it.

To the person who said RVP is not that creative, I hang my head in shame for your lack of knowledge on the player, RVP is far more of a team/creative player than Torres ever was, he is not an out and out goalscorer far from it and battles for the team at both ends.

RVP never has been an out and out goal scorer. Torres in his Liverpool days was one of the best goal scorers around, but he didn't offer much else to the team unlike RVP who has been very creative for others, much like Dennis Bergkamp was. Obviously Arsenal don't realy have an out and out goal scorer these days so RVP is having to play as the main striker, a position he is capable of but it isn't ideal for him. He's far better playing as the 2nd striker. Personally I'd take RVP over Torres all day long:biggrin:

He was anonymous for 89 minutes. One good finish does not make a good game, if you're a supposed to be a 'creative' player.

He scored a goal even when our team were on the back foot for almost all of the match, is that not an achievement? Do you expect a hatrick every game from him?

I just said he rarely performs against the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd & Liverpool. He's mostly a flat track bully, would you disagree with that?

I'm not calling into question his ability to finish chances, but hes not consistent enough for me.

Who are all these dickheads saying that Suarez is either better than or on the same level as Rooney? I hate Man United and Rooney with all my heart, but to me, Suarez isn't anywhere near as good as Rooney. Rooney is more or less the perfect centre forward. He has it all.

Something like 25 goals in his last 29 games. How more consistent do you want him to be?

Kevin Phillips had a record like that at one point.

That confirms you did not watch the game. He won the ball with a sliding tackle made the run and finished expertly, defended and ran the line all night against top quality oposition. You have no clue, an absolute waste of time.

You are clearly a wum making a pointless statment like that, not that u seem to have any clue about footballl but Kevin Phillips was a top class goalscorer and has had a decent career but your embarassing yourself trying to further your baseless petty viewpoint. All because some people on here think Torres an ex Liverpool player is over he hill. Pretty sad, let him go.

Hummels dominated him all game <laugh> You can **** off with this rubbish about him leading the line superbly. You were trapped in your own half throughout the game, through no fault of his own, but he did **** all bar the goal.
