‘Chance to build on momentum’ - McAllister

Jamie McAllister hopes City can build on Saturday’s impressive performance when they travel to face QPR in tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup first round tie (August 13th, 7.45pm KO).

The Robins head to the capital to take on their Championship rivals – a side they host at Ashton Gate in the Sky Bet Championship just four days later.

And McAllister is hoping City can kick on following their 1-1 draw at Birmingham City at the weekend, as they look to hand an opportunity to further members of the squad.

“It’s nice to get a point on the board and kickstart our season. It was a tough game at Birmingham and it was great to see the four lads make their debuts and a great start for them,” the assistant head coach said.

There were starts for Ádám Nagy, Benik Afobe, Pedro Pereira and Tommy Rowe, who scored the vital equaliser to get City a well-earned point.

McAllister said: “It was a real good team performance and we’ve only worked with some of them for a few days, they’ve settled well. It was great to see Tommy Rowe get the equaliser, he put in a great performance and it was nice to come away with a point. We could have nicked the three points but it was a good point on the road and we’ve got to build on that now.”

Tuesday night’s cup tie at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium could also be an opportunity for changes, with freshness and rotation vital.

“It will be interesting to see, some of the lads who have not had minutes are itching to get going and QPR will make changes I’m sure and then comes a big challenge in the league on Saturday,” McAllister said.

“They have started well having won one and drawn one but we’re looking forward to the cup game. That’s takes precedent and we want to win that game.

“We want to win every game and build on the performance we put on Saturday against Birmingham. There will be a few changes but it’s a game we want to go and win against a QPR side who have a lot of new signings, a new style of play under [Mark] Warburton; he’s got them playing some nice football, they’ve started well so it will be a tough game but one we think we can go and get something out of.”

Tickets go off sale from Ashton Gate at 12pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

I'd expect both clubs to play weakened sides wanting to give nothing away for this Saturday.
Tonight is a toss of a coin job and most won't care much what happens.

Both Cup completions have been demeaned over the last 20 years in favour of nothing else matters bar the League.
I remember coming back from watching City beat Hereford hearing, as we crossed the bridge, that we'd drawn the mighty Leeds United. The feeling of sheer excitement was palpable - the coach rocked.

It's sad that latter day supporters will never experience those feelings.
It's all a bit 'bubblegum' these days.

the milk cup as was once called was always something special, and quite often very well supported bearing in mind the difficulty back then getting to away games! the evolution of the game has had an influence, squads were smaller, it seems injuries less common.. maybe we should go back to the good old wet leather ball! and proper boots and studs!
to keep everyone happy the trend has been that about half the team that played the last league gets to sit it out, this gives the Manager an opportunity to give game time to fringe players and stoke up their interest.
 
I love the way the game is developing in the modern world all around, I hated the big, bulbous leather boots we all had but it was all that was available, when that big heavy, muddy leather ball used to smack you in the face or loose, wet lacing used to whip across your eyes almost, slashing your eyes out and blinding you, players used to sink ankle deep in the mud heaps they used to play on or the matches were called off because of flooding or frozen pitches, the stink of tabacco polluting our lungs and airways, standing in open areas getting bitter cold or soaked, no substitutes, 2points for a win, bullies for defence, broken legs and career ending injuries for wingers and strikers, Gerry Sharpe and Paul Cheesely for example, 1 televised club match a year, the cup final, 18" or 24" black and white tv's only, match of the day on a Saturday introduced slightly later.

Advantages2/6d (12.5p) to get in, pay on the day, 6d (2.5p) for a cup of tea or bovril, 11d (5p) for a pint of bitter, the good ol' Green 'Un and Big John Atyeo.

Today, smart kit's, modern footy boots, superb stadia and facilities, fast, skillful exhilarating football, multi racial, 56" and more flat screen tv's, or a host of gizzmo's where you can watch a game live at any time, countless games available, live from around the globe, substitutes, 3 points for a win, Jeff Stelling, it goes on and on.

I maybe living in a fantasy world but I bloody love it and hope to do so for many years to come, stilll trying to get used to VAR mind.

Wiz, I love football as well and agree with some of your comment.
However, and you know there's a 'but' coming :

'Today, smart kit's, modern footy boots' - bubblegum.
'superb stadia and facilities' ? try parking within a mile of AG at 2pm on match day.
'fast, skillful exhilarating football'- ' or slow possession square and countless back-passing.
'56" and more flat screen tv's', bubblegum.
'Jeff Stelling, it goes on and on' - and it's killed cup football.

I especially agree with you about the heavy balls and terrible pitches though.

<laugh><laugh> Rp, I did say I may be living in a fantasy world, I enjoy the razamataz of the modern game, without the bubblegum and modern presentation the game would be bankrupt, the money flows and the show hits the road, we can never go back to the 50's and all travel on the same double decker bus as the players and manager to the local match, have short back and sides basin haircuts.

Did you never enjoy a 6d cup of bovril and a 2d bag of scrumps from the local chip shop, like everything else it's all memories and a bygone age, the modern game is here to stay and develop, I wonder what's around the cormer, mixed sex football teams, self drive, battery powered referees, 4 quarters instead of 2 halves, it makes you think.:rolleyes:

'the game is bankrupt' when the Bury's of this world go bust, surely there could be a balance somewhere.
I can't feel happy or content when Prem players get zillions a year and lower league clubs and their staff go to the wall.
Wiz, I hope I'm not coming across all righteous - I'm a dinosaur who's views are numbered.

Dont know that it would.
You wouldnt have players on 6 figure salaries per week. Clubs would cut their cloth acordingly.

The top of the big league might be closer, and the gap between the bottom of it and the top of the championship might be closer. More chance of staying up when you make it without risking the financial future of your club.

The game is MORALLY bankrupt. That again comes from the money in the game.
How is it that players at man united are on 6 figures a week and the cleaners get £9 an hour.
Sorry, rhetorical question.

24" wow that was big 21" was our biggest from telebank! come on Wiz standing at the open end rain almost obscuring the covered end … pie man just outside the now open end entrance scalding hot cup of either to strong or weak tea .. never aimed to be first in que for tea them was the days..... surely you don't miss that ….lol
