Regarding Benfica game..

The game's other main talking point was Lindegaard's performance, which certainly puts further pressure on summer signing De Gea. The Spaniard came in for some heavy criticism after a shaky start to his Old Trafford career.

But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists De Gea will be restored to his team against Chelsea.

And Ferguson reacted angrily to questions posed by Kelly Cates, daughter of Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, about his goalkeeping dilemmas.

"David de Gea will play on Sunday," he told ITV Sport after the match. "I don't know why you ask these questions.

"You're just looking for stupid, little things."

Only Sir Alex can do it!
 
I don't think that's really anything to show off about. Sir Alex made a tit of himself there. It was a reasonable question and should have been given a reasonable answer. If SAF has a problem with Dalglish, he should speak to him about it, not have a go at his daughter. I'm a United fan and I can see that that was wrong.
 
I doubt the Dalglish angle had any impact on the whole situation to be honest. SAF is similarly short with any reporters trying to ask questions in a way that's designed to disparage our players, or get SAF to make a comment they can try to turn into a negative headline. He did the same with Veron, Giggs before the CL final, Ronaldo and any other number of players when the media were trying to cast aspersions.

It wasn't a reasonable question. On the yellow ticker when the teams were announced it said 'David De Gea has been dropped to the bench in place of Lindegaard'. Nothing about the team THAT was the main headline.

Sky and the media have been waiting for this to happen so they can pounce on it and they did last night. When she asked him the question he said that he thought they had an understanding. So Sky have ignored his request to not talk about it and asked him anyway.

It was pathetic. Looking to make something out of nothing as usual.

The interview was on ITV, not Sky. So not relevant in the slightest. It was a reasonable question, Fergie spat the dummy out because of a seperate agenda. That is all there is to it. Being asked by a journalist if your keeper's good performance tonight has given you a selection headache for the weekend is hardly a barbed question, is it?

I agree, but but this story has been bubbling for a while and I think that SAF's response is from what he sees as a witch hunt. For example Burley on ESPN was almost ranting in his assessment of De Gea's 'poor' start and so whilst this story rumbles on I expect SAF will continue to protect De Gea, and rightfully so.

Burley is a tosspot of the highest order and never has a good word to say about United so that doesn't surprise me. Hopefully De Gea gets another clean sheet and solid performance under his belt on Sunday and then he'll be set I think.

What isn't relevant? I was giving you an example of how the media jump at the chance to disparage one of our players. It wasn't about De Gea being rested it was about De Gea being dropped. What about Nani, what about Young he wasn't even on the bench?

It is obvious before the game United had asked ITV not to ask any questions on De Gea. He said they had an understanding and yet still they asked him the question. It's easy to see why he was pissed off.

Agreed and more so hes probably fed up with the constant barrage of questions regarding Da Gea ability, hes young and most certainly in my opinion will improve, also happy with Lindergaard as a back up!
 
it was as clear as daylight what they were trying to do by asking that question. they've been waiting to jump on de gea from the very start and are just dying for him to fail. they were hoping they could get fergie to say something they could then put a negative spin on and interpret it as fergie having a pop at de gea. fergie's not daft and was never going to fall for it.

TBH she deserved the response she got, lazy journalism to be honest.

She could have asked a Half decent question such as "You've played 442 in the premier league and have scored a lot of goals in the process winning comfortably, what made you decide to go 451 in this match"

Or something along those lines, but no she continues with the stupid De Gea campain on how he should be dropped etc etc.

Thats a daft quetion as we mostly play 4-5-1 in europe against better opposition and everyone already knows why
 
I don't see why people are associating his comments in relation to Dalglish? This has nothing to do with that pathetic man. He isn't even on Ferguson's radar. He is just some finished alchy who the Newcastle, sorry Liverpool fans see as their next 'Messiah'
 
As a reaction to one question he made a tit of himself. As a reaction to the media campaign against De Gea on the other hand he was tottaly justified
 
I don't see anything wrong with what she asked, SAF made himself look a right **** after she explained herself.
 
People are making such a big thing over the Lindegaard thing.

He had a decent game. Nothing more. He made one good save and suddenly the media find a way to try and undermine De Gea as usual. David is our number one for a reason, he is the best keeper we have at the club. Anders did everything well last night, but that's what you should expect from someone coming in. And fair play to him for wanting the number 1 jersey. If he continues to put in good performances all the time then De Gea has to be even better, which I've no doubt that he can do. Plus De Gea has one of the highest if not the highest save amount in the league already.

Considering some of the keepers and backup keepers that our rivals have, we have some of the strongest keepers in the league. Who is Chelsea's back up keepers- Hilario and Turnbull? City? In fact I've not got a clue who their backup keeper is. Arsenal- Almunia, Fabianski? Liverpool, again, don't know.
