Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he is “gutted” for Nathaniel Clyne after the defender suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury, and insists the setback will not influence his transfer plans.
The full-back is facing six months on the sidelines after the injury he picked up during Friday's 3-2 friendly defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Notre Dame proved to be more serious than first thought.
“You can prepare as much as you want but there are always problems. This is one of them,” said Klopp. “But this injury will not have any influence on our transfers.”
He added: “What can I say other than how gutted we all are for Clyney. He was training and playing so well – he was in outstanding shape.
“Clearly an injury of this nature isn’t a happy moment for any player, but the silver lining for him is that, according to the medical guys, it’s a straightforward ACL injury. This means fixing it and coming back from it should follow a path that is free from pitfalls and complications.
